We went for date night, the environment was cozy and relaxing. The food was delicious, the specialities offered with the soup and blue fin fish was very good. The sushi was great and octopus balls. We would definitely come here again. The staff was very friendly.

Hands-down, the best Japanese spot in the neighborhood. Also, to my knowledge, the only one in the neighborhood run by Japanese chef and crew. Highly recommended.

Our local favorite spot, my son loves their noodle soup, food is always fresh, we come here pretty often, service always on point.
Truly excellent Sushi. I felt like I was back in Tokyo for an hour. I will be back multiple times!

the quality of the fish was excellent but the portions were ridiculously small. the salmon ikura don only had 4 slices of salmon sashimi and they were thinner than my chopstick

Amazing ❤️
One of the best, authentic Japanese restaurants in the area. Food is fresh and seasonal!
Great for sushi/sashimi as well as cooked Japanese food.
Loved the mini-omakase option to try 3 pieces. Wonderful service and a variety of sake options.

The food is so so delicious and very authentic. The staff is wonderful and so friendly. Kondo is named after the chef and owner. He and his wife Kaori prepare the food and create a lovely ambiance. If you haven’t tried it you need to. Some of the best sushi in the neighborhood.

Picked up chicken teriyaki and it was completely inedible and unbelievably salty, served with miso soup that was also inedibly salty, a single previously frozen carrot and single piece of potato that also tasted like a lifeless frozen vegetable.
This was especially surprising given it wasn’t the typical “American” chicken teriyaki covered in sauce (it actually had zero sauce whatsoever) so it was somewhat shocking how salty and inedible the food was. Maybe this is a great place for sushi and seafood but not chicken teriyaki!

Restaurantji Recommends
The sushi here is excellent, but the experience leaves a bitter aftertaste. The sterile aesthetic feels like dining in a showroom. And the attitude towards families explains the one star.
They have a personal vendetta against toddlers. They went out of their way to remove the flowers from our table-and the table next to us-just so our kid wouldn’t touch them. Petty. No high chairs. And if you dare show up with a stroller when they’re busy, you’ll be turned away. Show up alone and you’re welcome with open arms.
We kept coming back for the food. But this cheap, mean-spirited behavior doesn’t make it worth it.
Authentic Japanese eatery run by Japanese chef, Mr. Kondo. Offers many Japanese small dishes along with Sushi and Sashimi. If you near in Astoria and crave for Japanese, I recommend Kondo.
Kondo and his team really care about the whole experience! 10/10
Eveything we ate was delicious and the servers were incredibly hospitable! An Astoria gem!
All Good Things with Kondo
Paid a visit with my Japanese friend and his baby. Honestly, I had passed by Kondo many times, but it always seemed to be closed. So here I am.
We ordered two lunch sets, and everything was great. However, I felt the Sashimi & Udon set was more valuable and tastier than the Beef set. (Yes, I ordered the Beef set, and you know, the neighbor’s yard is always greener, lol.)
Dining at Kondo was a pleasant experience—good food, reasonable prices, and attentive service.
Great place for sushi in Astoria!
