We’ve been to Max Bratwurst before but it had been a while. On this particular night, after leaving a restaurant in Manhattan without eating due to awful, arrogant service (check my other reviews if you’re curious), Max came through to salvage the night. It’s unpretentious, the service is welcoming, the food is tasty and inexpensive, and the beers are good. It’s always a strong go-to.
Looking for a taste of Germany? You will find it here in Astoria, Queens. We started with a soft salty pretzel accompanied with Obatzda …. a Bavarian cheese spread. That cheese spread, topped with a slice of red onion and a chunk of made for a perfect bite.

I visited here late afternoon on Sat 28 September whilst on vacation from Liverpool (UK). The staff are nice and there was a good atmosphere during both my visits here. (I came back the following Saturday. That's a long story.) The German Hofbräu beer here is lovely, and so too is the food. I had the Klassiche Bratwurst, Pommes Frites, and Munchner Kartoffelsalat.
