I was just recently there this week with a party of 20 people. The staff was very accommodating and friendly! Carlos, our server also fantastic 10/10!! Food was also amazing! all food came out in a timely manner even with such a large party. The cocktails were perfect! Make sure to go visit The James!

Amazing experience tonight! *Excellent* service, balanced and perfect food from start to finish. Oysters were fresh and reasonably priced, bone marrow butter was a perfect addition to ribeye, which was cooked to perfection. Table of 5 people, no one got a bad dish honestly. Can’t wait to come back!

Girls at the hostess desk were unfriendly, inexperienced and very immature. We had an 8 pm resy and had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. I kindly asked if the AC could be adjusted because the main dining room was uncomfortably cold, I was shivering the entire night. One of the girls laughed in my face and goes “no that's not possible.” I also asked our waiter the same thing and his solution was bringing over 2 little candles to keep me warm (as if that would do anything). From the looks of the new restaurant, I expected better service and more experienced staff, so that was pretty disappointing. Treatment from the staff tells the entire story, doesn't matter if food and drinks were good. People are what make the customers return. Not a great first impression, but would certainly give it another shot.
The James is beautiful! Lovely outdoor area to enjoy cocktails before our reservation. The service was on point. The wine list is extensive, the menu was nicely varied. Not crazy about the oysters, but the octopus was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be visiting again!
Service was excellent, food delish we had the crab cake and tuna as app highly recommend, dinner we had halibut special, beef Wellington and salmon all amazing. The atmosphere is incredible they did an amazing job renovating it. It's pricey but it delivers. I would definitely go again
The James is the sister restaurant of Arlo in Northport. The food is just as good and the ambiance was great. Caesar salad was great, the baked clams had an anchovy breadcrumb which was delicious. The beef Wellington was fantastic & the 19 layer chocolate cake was also excellent. Drinks were well thought out and fantastic as well. Overall the food & experience was just as good as it is at Arlo. Some of these reviews complain about noise, however I did not have any issue with that. It was a normal atmosphere. Some people just like to complain. The place is huge and gorgeous inside and is a nice spot to go to on the south shore. Overall this place is a nice new spot. Food and service was impeccable and well worth the price. Definitely should give it a try

Great first time! Our server Gina was extremely welcoming and attentive to our table throughout the night - even with a full restaurant. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was classy yet laid back. Will definitely be back again!

We have had better food at the local diner. The only difference from the Carriage House is the inflated menu prices, and the service was a joke our waiter was clueless, go to McDonalds.

Carlos our server went above and beyond any server I have ever seen. The food, ambiance, drinks and service you get while you are there is amazing and unmatched to any restaurant I have gone too. Highly suggest this restaurant and our server!
Service was attentive and professional. Food was exceptional and a good value. However Noise level was too high in dinning area. Our special occasion was recognized and appreciated

The James is a beautiful restaurant, with not a detail overlooked in its renovation from what used to be the Carriage House. Centrally located right off main in Babylon, it's easy to find. The staff is very friendly, all of them. However, maybe "too" friendly. The waitstaff constantly interrupted us in the middle of conversations to the point of annoyance. I know they meant well, but guys back off a bit. It would be better if you observed the tables and made yourself available with constantly injecting yourselves into conversations. You also need to listen to the orders a little more carefully. My wife ordered a baked potato; they took the order, But the potato never came. When she asked the waiter where it was, he seemed shocked and said "we don't have potatoes, would you like French Fries?" We settled on mashed potatoes The menu left something to be desired, in so far as it was mostly beef. Granted, it was probably a limited menu because we went there on a Thursday and the dining room was not completely full, nor did they expect it to be as I learned when I had to call to move our reservation to a different night. I would have preferred a little more variety in the menu, maybe more seafood choices. I ordered the filet mignon - rare. It did not come "rare" but maybe medium rare which is not how I like it, but it was still good. The restaurant is pricey, but then again, I could imagine their overhead, with plenty of staff at the ready. Despite my criticisms, I would definitely go back. The beauty of the place and the gorgeous bar and magnificent upper lever are well worth the experience. If you have a guest or a date you want to impress, this place is a wonderful choice, from the friendly valets to the accommodating hostess, who recognized I was handicapped, and took us to an elevator as there was no way I could have handled the magnificent staircase, to the food which I rate "good." While there is always room for improvement, you won't be disappointed.
