This is a cool neighborhood bar, with a casual atmosphere, nice people and cold beer. Ive been there only a few times, but it makes me feel at home.

Dive bar, but in no way is that a curseDecent priced beer. With a surprising large choice of non-draft.Bartender was quick to respond. And happy to put in effort to keep patrons happy.Comfortable if not a little rough around the edges. Bonus. I hear some solid cover bands play on the weekends

I went to this place around 6pm on Thursday, July 27, 2023. The bar is VERY tiny and the seats were all taken, but a couple was leaving when I came in so I got a seat immediately. The PROBLEM was that the barmaid passed me by at LEAST 5 times over the next 7-10 SOLID minutes. One of those times she even CURTLY said "hello", but she just kept going. So she KNEW I had just come in and was obviously waiting for her to serve me. And it wasn't like she had others to serve. She served one person and then went to the other end and hung out gabbing with some people there. I sat there a couple of more minutes and then a guy at my end called the barmaid ("barmaid!), waited a minute and called her again ("barmaid"), but she ignored him too, still gabbing at the other end!!! I had enough of this nonsense and walked right out. And do you know, she never even noticed me leaving. In all my life I never had such a disrespectful experience like that from a bartender. This moron needs to be FIRED because she's completely worthless as barmaid.

I absolutely love this place, my brother and I moved up there from Florida and we were always at this spot. Jackie was the bartender and they always had a band and the pool tables were always getting used.

The big draw is the local bands and open mic. The owners only allow cover bands, and do not support original music or any up and coming artists. They are not "lowkey" racist at all! They OBVIOUSLY do not greet, volunteer to serve a drink to, welcome, or even attempt to collect the basic cover charge from people with too much melanin. I was there a few times, specifically invited to check out and review the bands as a freelance promoter, talent manager and scout, etc., and had what other patrons of color seeking to spend money and promote what they hear and see at this venue not hang and cause problems, have described in other Yelp reviews. Bartini is a much loved local spot, with the same patrons all the time, many of them hobbyist musicians, etc., who know each other for years and move together from bar to bar and just don't welcome others who are not from the area or known to them. This isn't always intentionally malicious but can create an ethos that lends the impression of, does lend itself to, racism. Also really clear was the lack of female musicians or bands being promoted or booked or particpating as equal talents. Etc. This has more to do with the local scene than the venue. So while the "unwelcoming to new patrons" thing is cliques... this reviewer does not discount racism because thar doesn't explain a venue's staff clearly not greeting you as a customer when you walk in but greeting others, ignoring you rather than asking if you want a drink when you go to sit at the bar, refusing to or only pretending to serve you if you do assert yourself and try to order a beer, and going out of their way to not even take the $5 cover charge. They apparently just don't want people of color to feel comfortable patronizing their venue, even if the person has money and are glad to blow it all at the bar. No employees of color. No musicians of color. Maybe one patron of color other than me. On all visits. And... bands that some folks would errantly assume to be or label as "white music".Often the bands are a fair grouping of the same crew of local musicians, mixed and matched. Sound system is stellar!!! It's a small spot, and not much room for dancing, etc. Most of the cover bands were mediocre cover bands good enough to get people happy, entertained, getting their friends to come in and buy beers, etc which of course for a dive spot, serves the function. Other bands had excellent musicianship and HORRIFIC vocals and zero to bad stage presentation. Still others had amazing vocals and mediocre musicianship and little but interesting stage presentation. But nothing so incredible that it'll knock your socks off. There's a running joke that if you want to be famous or move into the professional arena of music out here, you have to have been kicked out of Bartini, bodily, at least twice. Notably, some of the super talented knock your socks off musicians who are now on Spotify, Pandora, Sirius XM, signed, Panorama, working as solid recording studio musicians, etc. were almost all tossed out of this bar at least twice and shunned socially by its patrons... either for personal stuff with the clique or venue managers, or for insisting on their sound, or telling off hecklers. So its kind of a beloved rite of passage to play here. Many genres are here, but at the moment, the trend is grunge or nu metal covers from the 90s and early 2000s which are not as easy to sing or cover live as many might think. If you are looking for a spot with really good bar food, fancy looking drinks, friendly welcoming vibe, chances to meet new people, and interesting atmosphere or decor, and a house band or local bands that will rock your damned world, Bartini isnt the spot for you. The owners keep it simple and that's made them a mainstay on Long Island which you have to respect on some level. Its decent enough if youre coming off the LIRR from work and want to grab a beer and nod your head to a familiar tune and say hi to locals before heading home. All of the above having been noted
