We ordered margaritas and had to send them back. Did not add sugar to rim but the table next to ours was all sugared up. Food was okay nothing out of the world

We love Whalers, especially on beautiful days to enjoy the waterviews and sunset. Special thanks to the hostess crew & Deanna for the great table by the corner for my bday. Joe, our waiter was awesome as well. Enjoyed our coctails at the bar (interior is nicely decorated & well air conditioned) as we got there early for the table.

Selected this venue via Open Table for a 50th birthday: Whalers restaurant on 124 Maple Ave. Bay Shore, NY 11706 (631) 647-9300. Noted on the Open table app that it was a birthday dinner. We ordered two cocktails, Seafood Risotto and a Boneless Ribeye. Despite the reviews, we found this restaurant to be par at best and overpriced. Arriving, there was no parking and people were blocking traffic for the few spots in front of the restaurant awaiting departures. The ambience is more of a loud luncheonette, with most people including some staff wearing shorts. Cocktails were expensive, although met expectations. $38 SEAFOOD RISOTTO, which consisted of: 5 small clams 3 medium shrimp 6 mussels 10?? extremely small sliced calamari 1 cut up asparagus Not flavorful, nor plentiful. $54 WHALERS STEAK, which consisted of: 14 oz boneless ribeye Mashed potatoes 2 Grilled asparagus There was no salad, bread or any other included item. We went somewhere else for dessert. Steak didn't appear to be 14oz, although was good, as well as the potatoes. A baked potato substitution was not available, even at an upcharge. Portions were small. No fee for credit cards, although a 4 credit card limit per table and a 20% gratuity automatically added to parties of 6 or more. We dine out at least once per week and considering quality, ambience, portion size, parking and value, we will not revisit this venue again.

Food and views were great. Service was slow and waitress didn't follow up to see if we needed refills on drinks or if everything was ok. We will go back though worth the trip!

We sat outside Saturday evening the the temperature was wonderful. The service was a little slow, but the food was delicious. We ordered mostly apps -- the watermelon salad, the gnocchi (our personal favorite), the tuna tartar and truffle fries were all beautifully presented, hot (or cold if applicable) and fresh. We ordered the chicken entree to split. There was nothing inherently wrong with it, but it had a little too much rosemary flavor for our taste and everything else was just a notch above. My husband enjoyed his watermelon spicy margarita and they made me a virgin punch since I am pregnant. All in all, we had a wonderful evening and the food was very tasty. Will return again.

The seafood stuffed shrimp was amazing and the bartender named Jameson was very personable

Food was ok, we had a dozen oysters , bland , muscles were dry, Cobb lobster salad was just ok, and stuffed shrimp over risotto, the same , it was basically all just “eh” especially for the price.

After leaving the lake house last week, my husband and I noticed Whalers, tucked across the street. It looked inviting, so we decided to give it a try—and we're so glad we did. We brought another couple along and made a reservation through OpenTable. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated. We had requested outdoor seating, and they graciously accommodated us. Our table overlooked the canal, where we watched the ferries come and go, unloading people and beach gear from Fire Island. It was the perfect summer scene. Our server, Joel, greeted us warmly and was attentive throughout the evening. We started with the Whalers Salad, a fresh mix of arugula, corn, sliced almonds, watermelon, and feta—light and delicious. Our friends shared the Iceberg Wedge, topped with crumbled bacon and a creamy ranch-style dressing. We ordered drinks to start the evening—my friend loved the Angry Evil bourbon cocktail, and my husband enjoyed a cold beer. For dinner, my friend and I both chose the Seafood Risotto, which was rich, comforting, and filled with flavor. One of our friends had the Bucatini Bolognese, and my husband ordered the Seafood Stuffed Shrimp, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Truthfully, deciding what to order wasn't easy—everything on the menu was tempting. I was eyeing the kimchi rolls, wings, and sweet calamari under appetizers, and strongly considered the short ribs, cod, and Bolognese for mains. It's definitely the kind of place that calls for repeat visits just to try more of the menu. The atmosphere was lovely—a gentle breeze coming off the canal, with a relaxed seaside vibe. The decor is charmingly seaside rustic, featuring turquoise screens and antique, distressed white furniture that add a casual yet curated touch. Our total bill came to just over $200, with each couple paying about $135 including tip. For the quality, ambiance, and overall experience, it was well worth it. We would absolutely return—Whalers is a hidden gem with great food, and excellent service.

Excellent seafood and comfortable setting. Service is great. Food is wonderful. It's lovely to sit outside and watch the boats go by and not feel rushed. I've had several different things to eat there and everything is good. I recommend the seafood risotto, the tuna, poke, the oysters, The scallops, and the seafood stuffed baked potato.

Vibe is amazing. The workers are super friendly. Food is horrible. I went last year and the food wasn't good either but I thought it was a one off. It's still bad almost exactly a year later! This time, though, I got super sick. Not sure if it was from the food or drinks.
