Family of 3 went on Sunday 8.31 for birthday dinner celebration. Our server, Sharon was not friendly. As if we were inconveniencing her by being there. She could not properly explain or read us the specials. We ordered. As we were waiting a few minutes after ordering, we noticed that the 3 plates on the table were dirty. Not like a spot on it dirty but used and not cleaned dirty, greasy. We ended up leaving within a few minutes, as this made us question what was in the kitchen if this is what was out in the open. We felt terrible to leave but did not want to get sick. My son also found food on the side of his chair. Just not clean. We read reviews afterwards and feel like we really dodged a bullet here.

We’ve been going to Cate’s for 10+ years and always enjoyed it. But last night we had a truly mediocre meal. The flank steak special arrived cold and the pesto gnocchi was more sauce than pasta. That said, several people in our party really enjoyed their meals. This inconsistency was a real disappointment after so many years of great meals at Cate’s.

I have been going here since a little girl and unfortunately this place has gone down hill a bit. The waitress got my order all wrong, my pasta was the wrong noodles and half way filled with water, other family’s food wasn’t very good either. (not to sound like I cannot do it myself) but the waitress didn’t even fill up our waters, just left the pitcher on the table with a bunch of empty cups. The sodas were all very watery. Not worth the price for us.

Horrible service by Sharon (yes, called out by name because she called us a liar and well honestly, she gave really bad service and still was upset that we didn’t give her a tip). Horrible manager. I asked after waiting too long for the wrong meal where our food was. She said the waitress (Sharon) was thoughtful of people eating their appetizers (we ordered garlic bread to go with our meal). At the end after we got the bill she came over and asked us what our issue was with the bill. I told her that our food was really late and we didn’t even get what we ordered. She said, “well you sent it back” which wasn’t true. It would just have been nice to not have been called a liar and done a little with the bill. Everything is expensive and we don’t go out much. Plus Sharon came running after us because she said we didn’t leave enough. She said we were short a dime on a 75$ bill. Pretty sure she dropped the dime more than once. Ridiculous night. Anyway, tell Sharon we said hi if you decide to go. She was pretty upset not getting a tip after all that drama. Go figure.

Our group of 10 have been going to Cates Italian Garden for our annual get together for 4yrs. now in Bolton Landing N.Y. We decided to go to Cates Garden because everyone associated with our get together each yr. enjoys the atmosphere, food and service. Its a great place to talk laugh and just enjoy our 3hr. get together. Best part is being in Lake George, Bolton Landing is when your done eating you can go inside to the bar or just walk and enjoy the small town itself. If ever in Lake George area stop by and enjoy Cates Garden in the outdoor seating area. you won't be disappointed. SEE YA NEXT YR.

Took some friends there to eat Saturday August 15th. 2025 and was told we could not eat inside because only seeing eye dogs were allowed inside. No other service dogs with papers were allowed to dine inside. But we could dine outside. We should have left but didn't. The food was horrible. I had the chicken alla vodka sauce and it was the driest piece of chicken I've ever eaten in my life. One of my friends had the lobster ravioli that was very bland and hard on the edges. The hostess had the waitress take my chicken back to the kitchen and get me another piece but they brought me back the exact same piece just made it look different by slicing it and adding parmesan shavings over it and thought I wouldn't notice it. Needless to say I will never be dining there again based on not being allowed to dine inside with a service dog.

So disappointed. In past years, this was the best pizza around. Absolutely delicious. Clearly that was a long time ago- ordered a large pizza that was severely undercooked and lacking any flavor at all. Major disappointment as we did takeout and by the time we ate it it was too late. For 25 bucks I could have gotten better tasting pizza and a tank of gas at Stewart’s. Also when I asked for paper plates I was rudely snapped at they didn’t give them out.

Today we Dined at Cates in Bolton Landing. The hostess told us upon arrival that my friend could not bring his service dog into the restaurant.
We traveled quite far to dine here so we were told we had to sit outside.
My friend checked his service dog papers and we were told that no restaurant can force patrons to be seated in a special area from normal patrons. I would like other people who need service animals to respond to this problem.
This will be my last trip to Cates Italian restaurant in Bolton Landing.

Love cates for their incredible lasagna and service!

The chicken piccata tastes nothing like a piccata and the portions are offensive for $30

Best bang for your buck are their pizzas. Eat it in late Spring thru early fall at their outside dining area.

Our server Peter, started out friendly but became combative and annoyed with our large table as the evening continued. When we received our vodka & club drinks without the limes, he replied “ oh well the bartenders busy” and made no effort to get them. When one guest cancelled her drink since she had already eaten her meal & waited so long, he asked the rest of the table “ does anyone else want to cancel their drinks?” Ewww…He failed to bring the grated cheese until we were done eating our meals & then we heard him complaining about us to the table behind us. It is a shame since the meatballs were fantastic & the woman who brought our limes was delightful. We will not return for that treatment again.

Food was good(great meatballs) waiter we had was horrible. Rude, dismissive, ignored basic requests, got annoyed when someone in the party wanted to order an additional drink and was overheard complaining about the table to other customers. Was possibly the worst dine in experience I ever had at a restaurant.
