Good food but racist. They thought I had poor English skills because I'm mixed race.
I'm not Hispanic and they tried to speak Spanish to me repeatedly even though I only spoke English and don't speak Spanish. It's not even that their English was lacking; they translated perfectly from Spanish when it was clear I didnt understand at all. They stopped when I explicited stated I don't speak Spanish.
Anyone not ignorant knows a Spanish speaker could look like anyone. As someone who gets perpetual foreigner racism for being visibly mixed race, it's disheartening to see casual, subtle racism so widespread and normalized. This never happens to my black or white hispanic friends, who on the contrary, have to prove they're Hispanic. So dumb.
