For anyone that is not saying nice things about this place should be checked. This is a great black owned place that I love. In New York we have tons of black Caribbean food spots but it’s very rare you find a black American , southern food spot like this one . And this is it !! Everytime I call them they accommodate me , they even put extra food items that differ from my order sometimes. They are polite and down to earth. shoutout to yall , food be hitting to all the time!

Terrance the owner wholesome dude. Stopped on for a coffee and was happy to explain all the historical black figures on the walls.
I used to come here all the time when it first opened and haven’t been around in a min so I go out my way to get some great food and I’m not gonna lie I’m ashamed of what this place became. Everything cooked from here used to be amazing and now it’s just mediocre

When I first started going here the fish shrimp and grits were like $9. You got two full size whitings and six fried shrimp.. Within a few months they went up to $20. Now you get one side of fish that is cut into four pieces as strips. The oil is burnt and the quality is way down. I have spoke with the owner a couple of times. Very nice guy. Something to be proud about in the community. However, the quality of this platter is definitely not worth $20. I keep going back and giving them a chance because they are part of the community but I'm not going back.
when it first opened it was good but it fell off
you go in there and wait mad long for your food & sometimes the cooks seem clueless. the food be off idk i really had high hopes for this store but idk

I have been a patron of this establishment since their opening. However there have been two incidents that were quite troublesome.I will speak first of the most recent, tonight, April 2nd, one of the workers was extremely rude and condescending. He (Jordan M.) wrote down my order— yet did not charge me for two items. When I brought this up, he was rude and wanted me to pay for the items (which is not a problem). Though since the two items were under the $5 threshold, I would be penalized an additional fee for using my card now. I told him that this was not acceptable since my original order was $19; and he made the mistake. Thus, I should not be charged for his mistake. He became loud, rude, condescending and aggressive. Mind you, I am a regular in this establishment and spend hundreds of dollars there weekly. I was not a stranger from off the street. When I vocalized that this was unacceptable, I was told that there was customers in the store. Again, I AM A PAYING REPEAT Customer!I will never spend another penny in this store. It’s a shame because the owner, his sons, and majority of the staff are quite pleasant. But this is the second time that I have been disrespected — and there will not be a third.I work too diligently for my funding to go somewhere where decency and mutual respect is not shown.I, much like another poster, try to spend where my people are— in black owned businesses. Especially since this has such a close proximity to my living space. But, I might as well go where my money is valued and I am not demeaned.Perhaps in the future I may return, but as of yet, that does not seem likely.Thank you for reading

Trying to support my black people but we don’t make it easy to support each other. Store workers arguing & getting ready to fight in front of me. & they got my order wrong. Please do better.

Fire they chicken is ?
First time trying out the place for their fried fish and sides. I suggest using a separate fryer for the seafood from the chicken. I tasted the chicken oil which over powered my fish. Potato salad was delicious. I suggest keeping popular sides like Mac n cheese in stock especially on Sundays as I was looking forward to trying that out. $15 for two pieces of fried whiting and one side of potato salad.
The food here is dope ?. Their super clean and the food taste like somebody’s grandmother cooked it. I’m Puerto Rican and it’s really cool that we have a African American deli in the area that has so much authentic soul food. Let’s keep them in business, their worth it.
