PSA: Check Your Happy Dragon Orders – Hidden Charges and Mispriced Items

I’ve been a loyal customer of Happy Dragon for several years now, frequently placing orders over $30+. Recently, I decided to question an overcharge I noticed—because this has been happening to me every time I’ve placed an order by phone. My total from the Happy Dragon Restaurant pamphlet came out to be $34.25, but I was charged $35.25. When I asked about the extra $1, I was told by the rude lady it was a “delivery fee.”

I’ve been using their most recent July 2025 menu pamphlet, which replaced the older version a few months ago. Nowhere on this updated menu is a $1 delivery fee mentioned—only a $15 minimum for delivery is clearly listed. After looking further into the charges, I discovered that they automatically include a can of soda with every order—even when I didn’t ask for one—and quietly add a $1 charge for it.

The pamphlet also makes no mention of a free soda with a minimum order, further confirming that the soda is not complimentary but is instead being charged to the customer without consent.

When my food was delivered, I asked the friendly delivery driver if there was a $1 delivery charge or soda fee. He seemed confused, said he wasn’t aware of such a charge, and advised me to ask the restaurant directly. That raised further concerns—even the delivery staff aren’t aware of what customers are being billed for.

There was also a separate instances where I ordered only Chicken with Broccoli and white rice which is priced at $11.50 under the “Chicken” section of the menu pamphlet or only Beef with Broccoli and white rice which is priced at $11.75 under the “Beef” section of the menu pamphlet. Instead, I was charged for both orders under the “Combination Platters” section priced at $13.50 each, which includes pork fried rice and an egg roll—neither of which were included in my order upon delivery. This caused me to be overcharged for an incomplete combo meal I never ordered to begin with, and it’s happened more than once.

While these may seem like small charges, they’re being added without my knowledge or approval—and this has happened every time I’ve placed a phone order over several months, which suggests a clear, intentional pattern. Formal complaints have been filed with the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) & NYC 311. I hope Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant takes responsibility and improves transparency in their pricing practices.

This is a PSA for all current and new customers placing phone orders: Always double-check your total and request a breakdown of charges, ensuring it matches what’s on their menu pamphlet (which is included on every delivery order). These unlisted fees and misclassifications are misleading and unfair to all Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant customers.

The lady over the phone had turned a place we all loved for over 10 years into the WORST Chinese food in the Bronx. Just by her nasty attitude. I haven’t ordered in over 2 years. Then today I was reminded why. I live one block away and ordered a $13 order. She said I needed to order more to order. That has never been the case for years.
The reason why I stopped ordering was similar! They sent me an order with a hair. Then they sent me another order and next time I called she said I was “banned” from ordering again. Ridiculous. Only good guy here is the delivery guy!

I have been ordering from this place for years. One day I ordered a delivery and there was hair in my food. I called and let them know there was hair in my food and they apologized and sent me a new order. In my opinion, when something like this happens and you’re a business , you should give free stuff to people or give me my money back. It’s an inconvenience to me. Anyways…a month goes by and I order a delivery again. When I called the first thing I say is “I’d like to make a delivery please” I tell her what I want and then tell the woman my address and she says “oh no delivery”. I’m thinking hmm strange. So my boyfriend ends up going to pick up the food and when he gets there he sees the delivery man making deliveries. My boyfriend asks why is the delivery man making deliveries and she tells him “we are banned from deliveries”. Smh never again spending my money here. They had their hair in the food they were preparing and then have the audacity to say we’re banned from deliveries. It’s crazy.

The order-taking lady who answers the phone has a horrible customer service experience and has no respect for potential customers requesting to order food. This lady needs to be fired and learn some manners and respect on speaking with customers and in general! Hence, I will be making a workplace city complaint on this business.

The food tastes good but they're flipping the food container on the wrong side to give us way less rice than other chinese restaurants. We had a big order and all the plates came upside down and I was surprised so I noticed the little rice they gave us since the top side is less thicker than the bottom side up side.

Lady who answers the phone is super rude , one day she will relieved my food then the next time she will say I have to order more for a delivery. I called and asked for a delivery today and I gave my order and she said ok then asked for my address which is only 1 block away she then said oh no delivery min is $15 . Never will I order here again. They had my business for many years even though I wasn’t happy with customer service. Delivery guy the best though. Very fast and friendly. But the lady on the phone needs a new job. She’s bad for business

The lady on the phone is super super rude! She’s constantly changing the minimum delivery fee, making it impossible for consumers to know when they’re order will be delivered. As if that wasn’t enough, she releases the call while customer is still talking. Would not recommend.
