I came here this morning 4/12 and just had to leave a positive comment. All the ladies working were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back because of that alone. Coffee and almond croissant was so good. I also got the olive bread to try later today. Thanks for the positive energy this morning, made my day so much better.

Amazing neighborhood bakery with sourdough bread, bagels and other conventional baked goods like donuts and cookies. The sourdough bagels are tasty and satisfying however if you want an authentic "NY bagel experience", I'd stick with one of the other places in the area.

So happy to find this cute, friendly, and very delicious neighborhood bakery and cafe. The staff was so nice and attentive. We saw a constant stream of neighborhood people, and you could tell this place is very well loved. The sour dough bagels are unique and were delicious. We both had toasted whole grain with tofu (!) cream cheese. I loved the California bagel, with thick slices of very fresh avocado, plus arugula. My partner had a NY bagel with smoked salmon. The bagel had a perfect crunch, yet also soft on the inside. It is sourdough, so doesn't give you that overly stuffed feeling you get with a "typical" NY bagel. I would choose these type of bagels any day, and wish we lived closer. Thank you Orwashers for a beautiful Sunday breakfast.

Bring back Sourdough bread instead of forcing the Heritage at us.... coy move to make people spend $2 more. Nice way to treat regular customer who were loyal.

The best-- EVERYTHING, no joke! I've had more than one person that has come to visit me, and after tasting my breads, cookies, babka, etc. from Orwashers, they ask me if I would ship them some, across the country! They're that good! The shop is cute, and their backed goods are glorious! But, a couple quick tips... 1). I recommend going earlier in the day, than later. Everything is fresh baked, and they seem to be quite efficient at baking only what they think they will sell that day, so it's usually slim pickings later in the day. 2). Like I said, EVERYTHING is amazing, you really can't go wrong. But if you only try one thing, make it the chocolate babka! It's HEAVEN, and perfect for those of us who like our sweets, not obnoxiously sweet. You're welcome;-)

Train your counter staff. Don't throw bags at the customers in sneer. West 81st. at 1:30 March 13. If I didn't want the bread I'd never come back.

I love the NY breakfast sandwich on a (really good!) bagel. And you cannot come here without getting a fresh, filled-to-order jelly doughnut (YUM!) Any pastry or bread I've tried here is delicious. Coffee is great. Prices are reasonable.

I love orwashers. I highly recommend their focaccias and loaves of bread. Their coffee isn't anything to sleep on either, I love the Vietnamese coffee!

The almond chocolate croissant was stale for the second time... Disappointed - I was hoping the second time it would be fresh

The old fashion donuts and the bread is amazing. Also love the kitchen sink cookie. Absolutely recommend, just be careful of long lines on the weekend

I think if you are coming here I would stick to the bread. We got bagels and they were stale unfortunately. Willing to go again and get just bread!

I see several reviews about unfriendly staff which makes me unsurprised about my visit today. But let me go back a few years first. When I moved uptown 5 years ago, I immediately tried this famous bakery. It was right around Purim and their mini hamantaschen were unrivaled--super teeny, super fresh, thin, but crispy dough, and with the right amount of filling to pack and punch. I think they had the same mini hamantaschen the following year, but to my utter disappointment, the year after that and so on, they kept selling "mini hamantaschen" but they were COMPLETELY different. They were just regular-sized pre-packaged thick and crumbly cookie-style hamantaschen that you could just as well buy at the grocery store. Absolutely nothing good or special about them. Over the years, I tried a few other baked goods from Orwashers. The black and whites the rainbows...nothing was ever great. Why is this place so famous? Am I missing something? But this year, I was so excited to buy my Hanukkah donuts (sufganiyot) from them because last year, my husband brought some home and they were INCREDIBLE--so fresh and tons of delicious jelly filling. To my dismay, for the second night of Hanukkah, they quickly sold out online but were offering similar donuts with homemade fresh, locally-sourced jam. I tried them out of desperation. The donut itself was very fresh but dipped in pure cane sugar--not powdered--and wayyyy too much of it. And the jam was good, but much better for fresh biscuits. I also bought mini blue and white cookies for my kids, which were mediocre at best. You can get much better ones at Whole Foods. That brings me to my experience today. I showed up 10 minutes before closing (knowing they were probably sold out) but asked if there were any of the original Hanukkah jelly donuts. The two women working the register said they were indeed sold out. When we noticed 6-packs of jelly donuts on a rack by the door, we asked if they were fresh from the day (who wants old donuts?) and they hesitantly said yes with an annoyed expression. So we bought them for $30 dollars and they shot us a rude glance as we walked away. Well, unsurprisingly, the donuts were completely cold and stale, as if they were made 3 days ago. We would have probably been better off with Dunkin Donuts. With so many bakeries in the area, we will not be giving Orwashers any more business.

Our family moved to NYC from Paris and was looking for a nice place to buy some bread and try something new. Definitely love the choice of everything here but the stuff could be more friendly.Aaand coffee taste... why so bad and sour?!

Two words: olive sticks! Stopped by for a donut craving and left with a vanilla glaze donut and olive stick. I will absolutely be back but for olive sticks and to try their other breads. You haven't had as soft and complex but simple of bread flavor until you've tried this one. The crazy thing is, I don't even care for green olives, but this bread is on another level. Service was quick. There's a few tables outside if you choose to sit and enjoy your pastries. They also serve coffee and other beverages. I can't wait to be back!

Great breads, donuts, and pastries. Option to slice bread thin or thick. However, sometimes, the bread slicing machine goes down and thick slices are unavailable. Sourdough is always the way to go. The donuts are freshly filled with your jam of choice so it will never get soggy. The raspberry and cream cheese danish/pastry is my favorite sweet treat to get for breakfast. Personally not a fan of the cold brew and coffee here. It is a bit sour/bitter for my liking.
