The Snug and City Island Diner are true local treasures. They’re owned by the same wonderful people and share a kitchen, but each has its own vibe and hours — and together they’re unbeatable.

The fully loaded chili here is hands-down the best I’ve ever had. It’s rich, hearty, perfectly seasoned, and also shows up in their nachos, which makes them next-level comfort food.

One of my favorite things? They have a secret menu (no longer advertised) with specialty grilled cheese sandwiches and specialty hot dogs — and we absolutely love it. The Tuscan Melt (no onion) is perfection, and the Reuben Dog is unforgettable. With the hot dogs you get two, and you can mix and match styles, which is such a fun and generous touch.

At The Snug, my go-to drink is a black & tan, which pairs perfectly with the cozy, neighborhood pub feel. Over at the diner, my favorite dish is the Corned Beef Hash breakfast — classic, satisfying, and done exactly right.

Beyond the food, what really sets these places apart is the people. Every server is genuinely kind, welcoming, and deeply plugged into the City Island community. You feel like a regular even on your first visit.

Great food, great people, and real local character. City Island wouldn’t be the same without them. 💙🍽️🍺

A small pub with all the good feels dont go there looking for a good Teqiula , but to have a conversation. Buy a pint for a stranger or if your really lucky to meet an incredlible beautiful soul and Dog walker.

Shepherd’s pie without a crust, $20 for mashed potatoes over a layer of hamburger meat w/ pea and carrots. (charged me $2 for asking for bread)
Atmosphere : the Beer maid is dating a 55 yo, father has Cancer and mother is vague but seems to be contentious…. A lot of old people just walking in and out I wanted to enjoy it given all the Pride Flags but I was really disappointed and if I went back to Ireland and told them about this dish called Shepherds Pie in America they would die of a heart attack

We arrived early for dinner. Service was quick. The food was tasty, and portions were large. I had enough for lunch the next day.

Parking: We were early on a week day in February, so parking was simple. I am sure it can get difficult on weekends and during the summer.

The Snug is terrific. The staff & owners make everyone feel welcome. We’ve watched sporting events there, and we always meet nice people. Our daughter goes to university in New York & we stay on City Island when we go to visit her. Every evening we head to The Snug for dinner or for drinks at the end of evening. It’s always fun at The Snug.
