This is probably the only 100% authentic Puerto Rican food restaurant in the area and the quality is as superb and consistent as it was 20 years ago. I was there yesterday for food and drinks and had a great time. The chicharrones de pollo were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The service is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. I am going back today for some rice, beans and bistec palomilla, which is the best in New York.

Warning: I love everything about this place. I've passed by this place several times and the crazy rock facade has always caught my attention - as well as the name of the place "The South of France" followed by "Restaurante & Bar Latino." So when a friend told me she wanted to come to the Bronx for dinner - I thought this was a good time to test it out. The inside is small, has some of the rock facade, a wood bar, tile, mirror, double block glass and tables with 80's mod chairs. It's a fantastic fun mix and perfect for a fun night out. The service is as friendly as it gets- the young lady behind the bar (also the server) talked to us about the menu and made me and incredibly piña colada. My friend and I split the Alcapurrias (amazing!), a salad (you can skip), an incredible side of rice and beans and Camarofongo (easily the best mofongo I've had in a long time). Beyond the food- the atmosphere is pure fun. A loud jukebox playing an insanely fun mix of music (Latin, BeeGees, 80's/90's soul) and people at the bar singing along. The lovely owner, Maribel, came to our table thanked us for coming and told us the restaurant hosts karaoke, poetry readings, LGBTQ nights... I'm mad I haven't been coming here all the time I've known about it...but I'll be back. A bunch!
Worst restaurant in the entire Bronx. Came to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. They have literally 1 employee so you wait forever just to be served. Finally - I ordered the paella, they didn’t have it, went with the Lobster, didn’t have it, then steak, DIDNT HAVE IT! Ordered 2 drinks prior to ordering food, and if they didn’t have anything I wanted on the menu, obviously I don’t want the drinks, I want to leave. I ordered drinks to enjoy with my meal. Instead of the owner being understanding or even APOLOGIZING for literally not having anything on the menu. She started yelling and screaming that we had to pay for 2 untouched drinks and at that point I was definitely not tolerating such disrespect. I have never met such a nasty, disrespectful, rude business owner in my entire life. She screamed in our faces DONT EVER COME BACK, I’m sorry but is it my fault you don’t have ANY FOOD ON YOUR MENU that I wanted? She also reeked of booze so she must’ve been drunk. I would literally never step foot into such a rude disrespectful establishment ever again - and it would advise you not to either. These are the type of people that would spit in your food if they’re having a bad day.

I can’t rave enough how insanely awesome this place is….I’m more of a burger and fries kind of guy tbh but I do love me my Rican food…and this place did NOT disappoint. The food was utterly AMAZING from the chuleta and tostones my lady had (I ate most her tostones lmao) to the steak and fries I had (the fries were hand cut and straight up had that home made vibe and taste…and the steak was practically perfect…super win). Then of course there’s the service …the hostess Natalie was superb with her attentive and pleasant nature… and along with the rest of the staff I was pleasantly surprised of how warm and welcoming everything felt…it straight up felt like going to abuelas during a family event and having good food with good vibes…i honestly haven’t had such a great dining experience like this in AGES and I HIGHLY recommend this place….if I could give more than 5 stars I would! Excelsior!!!!!!Honorable mention; Watching the “abuela” of the establishment handmaking the acapuria right there by the kitchen was so effin cool and made me feel like this place is as authentic as it comes!!!!!! God I love this place!
