The food has a unique, sophisticated taste, and the aesthetics of the restaurant are beautiful. However, the prices are far beyond how much food you get. For instance, just a small bowl of guacamole is $18. I asked for a side of hot sauce for my entree and they charged me $5. They are not clear that these things will cost extra either. They make it seem like it can come with any meal as a starter, like bread at an Italian place. It’s sad, because for the price, I did not feel the quality was there. The guacamole tasted like old avocado. The cilantro was not fresh or flavorful. It literally cost $70 and all I got was a small appetizer and drink. I would rather go into manhattan for that amount.

Tobala is so worth the visit! We decided to give Tobala a try and we were not disappointed. The initial entry was warm and inviting, and we were immediately seated. The ambiance was romantic and cozy and the layout was efficient and flowy.
The playlist was great, the service was excellent and the food was impeccably delicious! We almost did not want to disturb it. Everything was spot-on!
The appetizers were small , but fresh, tasty and delish! The entrees were a bit larger in portion, delicious and filling! The prices were steep, but this place serves authentic high quality foods. We were glad that we chose Tobala for our date night! We enjoyed the desserts— the bunuela and the tres leches, I preferred the center of my tres leches not be so distinctively orange-flavored.
We plan to return to Tobala, it was worth the trip!

Great food in a sophisticated ambiance with a beyond friendly staff. The Mexican dishes with a Dominican 🇩🇴 twist , keeps your palette in culinary suspense. The energetic bartenders, serve up tropical cocktails from a well stocked bar. Tobala is a gem in the heart of Riverdale.

Wonderful service, delicious moles, inspired interpretations of traditional dishes. It’s expensive but worth every penny.

We stopped by Tobala in Riverdale this time just for drinks and dessert. I had their hibiscus margarita, which was really good — refreshing and perfectly balanced. We also tried their flan de maíz, our first time having flan with that flavor, and it was delicious! It came with a side of sapote, which had a great flavor and texture. Overall, a really nice experience — great place to relax and enjoy something different.

Easily one of my 5 top favorite restaurants in the city - and certainly my favorite in the Bronx! I simply want to try every single thing each time I go. The different type of moles are always a must, and any dish with short rib or crab is really worth getting as well. The carajillo is the best I’ve had. The food is amazing but the vibe is even better- the music is always great, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere transports you to a beach town when you walk in. Perfect for dates, group hangouts, or celebrations. I went with a group of 5 for Día de los Muertos and there was a great energy in the air - we even danced a couple songs with people we met there.

This restaurant was on my list for a while and was happy to finally stumble upon it. Our waiter Johnathan was great, witty, and knowledgeable. We had the draft beer, esquites, tacos de Barbacoa, duck mole, and the pastry/hot chocolate dessert. Food was balanced and delicious. If I had to be critical for this restaurant to reach its peak success- I would say the mole did not come out as hot as it could have (was just slightly warm) and the tacos de barbacoa could have used more balancing and freshness to it. Would definitely recommend and come back

So close to being a Michelin Restaurant, BUT missing that one thing.

I was born and raised in Manhattan, but moved around here a couple years ago and Tobala's atmosphere, interior, service, and knowledge of the waitstaff is impeccable. I genuinely think they're near Michelin quality in terms of those aspects; HOWEVER, they're missing something major holding them back from achieving it.

The restaurant's food tastes good, but I think the food could taste a lot better. I really love it here, but this is something I deeply wish they'd improve. Since unfortunately, I think their nearby competition does beat them out in this aspect, I hate to say it. I really wish for Tobala to improve the taste of their food to match the presentation of it, as well as the rest of the immaculate aspect of the restaurant. If you're from this area though, it's definitely the place to try.

It's so refreshing and brings class to the area, I'm so thankful to have it here and will continue to go.
