Gem of a spot selling Japanese grocery items as well as prepared foods.

Food is great, but down to three stars for me now because they advertise on Uber Eats that they give you 5 karaage in the bento but they've only been giving 4 lately, and 4 karaage in the karaage+fries combo and they've only been giving 3. I'd like to be served what I think I am paying for. That, or update your advertisement.

The food was very good! I ordered the chicken livers, fried oysters, Japanese fried chicken, Brussels' sprouts and vegetables, potato salad and Japanese crackers. I asked about using MSG and they clarified which dish. The only problem I had was the choice of music with profanity. Rap music for me was a negative reflection of the business and didn't even fit the demographics of the area or the business culture! If I came back and the music selection was the same it would be for me an insult based on the above. I also was born in Japan and know about demographics of business in this area for I manage a business in this community.

Ambiance and ConceptThe diner is a unique fusion of a Japanese Steiner, a small grocery store, and a liquor store, all nestled in a cozy corner of New York City. This establishment defies expectations with its unassuming exterior and lack of a traditional Japanese name. The clever blend of dining and retail creates a vibrant, multifaceted experience, reminiscent of the small izakayas and shops found in the streets of Japan.Culinary ExperienceThe highlight of this diner is undoubtedly its culinary offerings, particularly the tonkatsu. After a gastronomic journey through Japan, where I experienced some of the most flavorful tonkatsu, I was pleasantly surprised to find a comparable, if not superior, version in this unlikely spot. The pork chop is cooked to perfection, with a balance of crispiness and juiciness, enveloped in a rich, savory coating that elevates the dish to a sublime level.ServiceThe service is warm and welcoming. The proprietors are not just owners; they are ambassadors of Japanese hospitality. Their kindness and attention to detail add a personal touch to the dining experience, making each visit memorable.Seating and AccessibilityThe seating arrangement is the diner's only apparent shortcoming. Most customers seem to prefer takeout or delivery, which the diner accommodates efficiently. However, for those who choose to dine in, the outdoor seating on the sidewalk is somewhat limited and lacks the comfort one might desire for a relaxed meal. There's certainly room for improvement in this area to enhance the overall dining experience.Overall ImpressionThis diner is a hidden gem for anyone seeking authentic Japanese cuisine in New York City. Its unorthodox combination of a restaurant, grocery, and liquor store creates a unique charm. While the seating could use an upgrade, the quality of food, especially the tonkatsu, makes it a must-visit for both locals and tourists alike. Whether you're ordering delivery or braving the limited outdoor seating, you're in for a culinary treat that brings a slice of Japan to the heart of New York.**Verdict:** A delightful surprise offering a genuine taste of Japan in an unexpected setting. Highly recommended for its exceptional tonkatsu and warm service, with the hope for improved seating arrangements in the future.

A solid takeout situation here at 750. Tried the tonkatsu, a spam and egg onigiri and the chicken curry udon. The tonkatsu was definitely the hit of the selections, crispy and flavorful. Would definitely try some more of the menu here!

I ordered salmon with rice, they sent me mackerel with a note saying that they were “sold out of salmon”…?!?! We don’t eat mackerel! but they never called me to double check with me: they simply just replaced the meal. Which is so wrong, they should have let me know or call me to make sure I was fine with the replacement . You can’t even call them, they don’t have a phone number and when I found one online, it goes to a voicemail ( not even sure it’s the restaurant) it’s too bad, the food looked good but restaurants who decide on behalf of customers without their knowledge is just wrong. Especially if you have allergies .

As someone who has lived in Japan, this is the real deal. Food is amazing. Traditional Japanese comfort meals with innovative and delicious touches. Looking forward to trying the whole menu.

Ordered the Japanese Karaage chicken. Excellent with moist white chicken on the inside and crispy on the outside. First time having it.

Had the greatest pleasure being served by a nice Japanese family. The food tasted homemade and was generous with its portions especially for its price. The atmosphere is welcoming and homely rather than pretentious.

So I am Jewish who looks Arabic and I go through discrimination all the time but in the end we mostly laugh about it. So this store which is basically12 wide and maybe 30 -49 feet deep. I won a condo around the corner here. So my hands were full and I decide to put a 3 dollar candy in my pocket handing out of my pocket it was pretty long about 2 deet long maybe but less. He handles it out of my pocket and tell me don't ever put it in your pocket. Number one racist I'm a blu color technician unlike his regular customers who probably either work from home or have mommy daddy money, either way I haven't left the store he had no business tanking things out of my pocket or causing me if anything when I was still shopping . The reason I had one of 8 items I. My pocket is because I came to get one item and it happens to all of us. So yea than they are the ones yelling hate crime when in reality they are very judgmental ppl .

I’m all about supporting local businesses but only go here if you need to; they prioritize their app orders which offers the lowest return in profit. They have a loyalty program they literally don’t care about (stamp card) that they actively don’t promote as they did initially. The customer service experience is determined by the consumer.
