Very unprofessional restaurant!! Avoid!!
I wasn't going to write this review, but when a shady restaurant wants to attack someone's review with lies, then I'll come with the receipts.
My entire family was coming into town (18 people in total) and we planned to be at the Dumbo carousel just before dinner time. Even though they have a very limited menu, we decided to call and make a reservation at AlMar, given their proximity to the carousel. We spoke with the restaurant the evening of Nov 7th to make the reservation for the following weekend (Nov 15th) and we asked for 5pm because half of our party consisted of children that needed to be in bed by 7:30pm. We were instructed that they wouldn't open until 5:30pm, but we decided that that would still work well. The following day, they sent through the confirmation email (attached).
Fast forward to Thursday evening and we received a message from AlMar letting us know that they have other bookings at our confirmed time and that they'll have to cancel our reservation unless we can move the entire group to 7:30pm. After reminding them that we needed an early time because of the children, they said they would then have to cancel the reservation (attached).
My assumption is a better opportunity presented itself to them so they decided to bump us. Luckily the team over at Cecconi's Dumbo stepped in on Friday afternoon, moved things around, and saved the day for my family.
If you happen to be in Dumbo, you're much better off going to Cecconi's. The food, drinks, and service are much better! I will never step foot in AlMar again and I highly recommend you do the same.

They canceled our reservation of 18 people, exactly one day before our reservation. Wildly unprofessional.

Our favorite local Italian spot in DUMBO / Brooklyn Heights. Staff is great, welcoming and attentive. The food is some of the best Italian we’ve had in NY. Would highly recommend coming here. Predominantly a local crowd even though it’s so close to heavy tourist traffic, which is nice.

I love Italian food and Al Mar hit the spot food wise, but the service was also great. Our waiter was super sweet and the host let my friends and I use their phone chargers. Will definitely be back!

No good. If you like real itialian food thats not the place.
I ordered the Tagliolini with shrimp and it was really disappointing. The shrimp tasted like it came from a farm, not fresh at all, and the pasta had a strong fishy smell without any actual seafood flavor. There were no real Italian spices or seasoning, and the dish looked old and unappetizing. Overall, a very poor experience and I wouldn’t recommend it.
