I was just back from my first trip to Japan. My daughter and I had come to Greenpoint to shop at Beacon's Closet. The best one. It was a hot June day and we were hungry for lunch. Around the corner from Beacon's we found Amami. Perfect. Authentic Japanese without being silly about it. Great food, friendly relaxed ambiance and reasonable prices. Love their logo of the geisha with the old school MTA subway token.

I will never come back here. I came here and they took forever to provide the bill. The food was okay but overpriced. The thing that was very messed up was they charged me a bill from my friends food that they ordered and voided it but never told me. I had to ask them about the charged payment. The customer service was not good. I don’t normally talk bad about the restaurant business because I know it can be hard as a waitress but this was just rude and careless. How can you charge someone an order that they didn’t make for someone else’s meal and then void it without telling them?

I've been there for lunch on a Friday. Calm, nice place. Portions are small. But it is okay, we understand that ingredients prices are sky rocketed as well! Staff: Very good. Taste: just like japanese There's nothing bad to try.
