I was just back from my first trip to Japan. My daughter and I had come to Greenpoint to shop at Beacon's Closet. The best one. It was a hot June day and we were hungry for lunch. Around the corner from Beacon's we found Amami. Perfect. Authentic Japanese without being silly about it. Great food, friendly relaxed ambiance and reasonable prices. Love their logo of the geisha with the old school MTA subway token.

We sat in the back area which was quiet. Had the ramen! Not bad. The sushi was good, but nothing special.

Really high quality sushi in an unpretentious place. Delicious and complex. I was pleasantly surprised and you will be too! The sushi dinner special is the way to go for an excellent chef selection that is stellar quality at an affordable price point.
