We adore this restaurant and we've brought many family members and friends here for dinner. The food is so tasty, and vegetarians will be pleased by the offerings, not just the meat eaters. 😋 The appetizers and soup are also special.

The interior is cozy and service is great. We did not enjoy the food that we ordered. The fried calamari was chewy, the pasta with clam sauce was soupy, the rice tasted as if were boxed rice etc. To be fair this is only based on the food we ordered.

We showed up 4:45 after seeing a show at The Gallery Players down the street. Admittedly there were 8 of us and we didn’t have a reservation, but we were hungry and ready to eat. The guy who greeted us had an attitude almost immediately, told us we could only eat outside (which was what we wanted in the first place) and then proceeded to chastise us for not making a reservation. Honestly, that one interaction changed the tone of our whole group and no one felt welcomed after that, so we quickly decided that another restaurant in the neighborhood would probably be more welcoming and appreciative of our business.

So delicious I plan special trips just to eat here. The food maintains standards, portions exceed expectations, and prices make sense. The people at Athena Mediterranean Cuisine are consistently friendly. This spot speaks to those who appreciate good meals. The cost here is justified.

Finally went to Athena for dinner. Had checked out the menu beforehand and wanted a nice Greek dinner cooked with care. First the good: What nice people. It's clearly a family-run restaurant and they are down-to-earth and care. The interior is clean and comfortable. The issue was the food (for us). Very mixed results We were offered some lovely pita with a ramekin of hummus to start - nice. We had a grilled sardine appetizer and it was good. 3 nicely sized sardines, properly grilled. The issue was the mains. My rack of lamb (chosen because I cannot eat cream sauces) was smothered in a veal reduction sauce (my bad for not thinking to order it on the side). I ordered it Medium rare and it was medium (not the worst problem) but the sauce...oy. Someone has lost their way and/or doesn't taste what they are sending out. It was sooooo sweet - it felt like someone had poured dessert sauce over the lamb. Not a drop of savory in it. (In case I felt I was wrong, had my other half taste it and confirmed that it tasted like someone had dumped a lot of sugar in the reduction.) My other half splurged for the lamb shank with a tomato orzo. I didn't taste the lamb - he said it was fine. I did however taste the orzo and it was almost mush. so wildly overcooked ... confirmed by my other half who doesn't like to complain just tells me afterwards and says...somewhere else next time. Staff/owners: lovely. Our dinner - overcooked, oxersauced (overly sweet), overdone. sigh.
