No consideration for people’s time. Cancelled an hour after ordering.

They are open until 2pm but they shut down the grill and don’t make hot sandwiches at 1pm? Why? So the workers can run away right at 2. They basically shut down way before they close. Could they easily start cleaning up at closing time? Of course! But they don’t care about their customers.

This was my favorite bagel place for years - I went every weekend. Delicious bagels and sandwiches, awesome coffee and fantastic front and back of house team. It was never the cheapest of the local places but the quality made up for that. Five stars all around.
Recently they changed their front of house - and the experience is awful. Longer waits, significant attitude and lack of service. Everyone seems bothered that you're there and speaks to you like you're an idiot. This isn't just the weekend team but even M-F.
This is NOT an isolated incident and so I've since stopped going. I did return this past Monday just to see if anything has been refreshed and it hasn't. It's just the attitude of the new team, which doesn't seem to be getting better with time. Heartbroken. I hope ownership does a refresh to bring back this staple.

I had my mom come get bagels this morning and the girl at the counter started asking my mom if she's Russian and it felt VERY off. NOT ok. Perhaps the staff needs to be educated on racism.

Be careful with that blond woman at the front. Twice she over charged my husband . First time my husband let it slide. Second time thank God i was with my husband to correct her. Its just very suspicious because how can she make a mistake when everything is punch in the register and register gives you the total charge. Just be wary everyone. Though I can’t help coming back to this place because they have great bagel and muffins

Ughhhh got a bagel with Turkey cheese and egg. The egg was cold! My husband got bacon and egg, his egg was cold. When we went back the blonde woman at the counter wrote a note to the next guy to her about us. No one speaks English or understands when you are asking a question. When we have vacationed here in the past we usually get bagels at least one day for breakfast, shamgels, was good back then. This is really bad, it is sad what has happened to the quality of the food and service. Please hire a chef to make fresh eggs and hire a customer service manager to train people and provide good customer service. Sadly it is becoming a lost art.
I am befuddled that this store remains in business with their unwavering track record of poor customer service.
I believe in giving places and people the benefit of the doubt, so I refrained from judging the store based on my first encounter. Everyone can have a bad day, and I understand that.
During my first visit to their Bayridge location, the store was empty, and I was the only customer. The woman at the cashier was joking around and chatting with the deli staff, leaving me standing at the counter for almost four minutes before she took my order, despite seeing me come in. When she finally acknowledged me, she simply looked at me without saying anything. I greeted her and asked if they had decaf coffee. She curtly said "no" and resumed her conversation with the deli staff. I was astonished by her dismissive attitude. "No" was the only word she had spoken to me so far. I wanted to order something from the deli, but she didn't give me the opportunity. When I finally interrupted her conversation to place an order, the deli staff pointed to a sign by the counter that said "order here," where I had been standing the entire time. By this point, I was understandably frustrated, but I still tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. When the cashier finally came over, she disdainfully repeated that they didn't have decaf coffee. I politely said it was fine and told her I wanted a sandwich. She then sarcastically remarked, "Oh, you want to place an order now." If she hadn't jumped back into her conversation, she would have known I wanted a sandwich. Despite the terrible experience, I left a tip, hoping it would encourage better service next time.
On my next visit, I ordered a sandwich with fried onions. The same cashier took my order and then informed me that they didn't have fried onions. I was speechless. She clarified that they had onions but not fried, so I asked if they could fry the onions. I couldn't understand why this simple request was so confusing or controversial. It felt like I was in one of those new-age restaurants that are deliberately contentious as part of the experience. This was the last straw for me.
On my way back, I ran into my neighbor walking her dog and shared my experience. She told me that she has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and has never heard anyone say anything positive about the place. This only reinforced my initial bewilderment that this store remains in business. If I could give this place zero stars, I would.

I don't know what happened to this place. I'm assuming they changed management and/or ownership.
I would go here multiple times every week for 10 years. The cost was always a bit pricey, but the food was amazing and staff was so friendly and hard working. I was happy to pay the price.
That is not the case anymore. I've had miserable encounters with the staff over the last few months including a 2 bagel delivery order that took over 1.5 hours and I only live 2 blocks away. No calls, no communication, no effort and reallllly sour attitudes.
Really sad. Bagel Schmagel was a staple in this community... was.

blonde woman in the fronts attitude is just disgusting. Kept going back to ask her for things and she just made it seem like I kept bothering her. 15$ for a small coffee and bacon egg and cheese. I told her crispy bacon and this is all the goo I got from it. Place has potential but not with customer service like this.

The owner is delusional based on how he replied to other reviews. Look at the recent reviews and make some changes. The new cashiers can't even greet correctly on the phone and answer with " Hi this is Bagels". Long wait times when there's few customers, and half the time the front staff isn't by the register. Food is great, service is horrible.

Bagels are OKAY if you’re in a pinch but the cashiers continue to be extremely slow, unbothered and unpleasant. Despite the convenient location, I think I’ll see what else is in the neighborhood.
