Recently visited for date night and it was awesome. We had the Branzino and it was amazing and the service was good. No complaints, will definitely come again.

Bar 56 is perfectly fine — nice vibe, feels fancy, and it’s next door to St. Ann’s Warehouse which is the real reason to go if you’re seeing a show.
But the prices are ridiculous. My pasta entrée was $42. Forty-two dollars. Is this Rezdôra, a Michelin star restaurant? It is not.
Service was slow and weirdly paced. At one point the waiter quipped that we should clean our plates because “people are starving.” I’m already paying $18 for a cocktail and don’t need it to come with a side of guilt. I also ended up getting food poisoning that night but others in my party were fine so don’t want to blame it on the establishment. Would maybe try happy Hour but not worth dropping $300 for a meh dinner.

It felt like a safe and clean environment.
The wine list was decent.
This used to be our favorite spot in Dumbo and it rivaled a lot of well known restaurants in the city. Sadly, lately they have made too many changes for the worse. Many favorites have been removed from the menu and replaced with uninspired dishes. Maybe it’s due to the chef change, or a change in direction, but when you have winning dishes you should probably not substitute them with bland pasta dishes you can get anywhere.
Service has also gone downhill quite a bit. Especially with the new outdoor dining. It’s clear they hired a lot of inexperienced people, but if we are paying fine dining prices, you better step up the service.

The steak fries were tasty.
We stopped in for gin cocktails on a warm July afternoon and enjoyed exceptional service from Yajaira. High prices, but delicious drinks!

Waited 30mins for a piece of ravioli. One piece. Though it was delicious, left hungry. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Unfortunately not coming nor recommending to friends. Spent more time waiting than eating.

Amazing, hidden behind time out market, but what a gem once you’re inside. Listen to the server recommendations but you can’t go wrong with anything!

An Unforgettable Culinary Experience at Bar 56 – Brooklyn’s Hidden Gem
We had the absolute pleasure of dining at Bar 56 in Brooklyn this evening, and it was truly an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Nestled in the heart of the DUMBO district, between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, this spot is not just a restaurant – it’s a destination.
From the moment we walked in, we were enchanted by the stylish, warm and inviting atmosphere. The space is beautifully designed and creates a perfect setting to enjoy a leisurely and elevated meal with nice background music and perfect ambient lighting.
We opted for several small plates to share, including fresh oysters, a divine tuna tartare, and outstanding ravioli. As a side, the Brussels sprouts were simply exceptional. Every bite was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and executed with finesse. The food alone would have been enough to make this a memorable night.
The wine list is a standout feature: original and thoughtfully curated, allowing guests to choose based on flavor profiles rather than just region or grape. We enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio that complemented our dishes perfectly.
Our evening was made even more special thanks to the impeccable service. A huge thank you to Yajaira – warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. Toward the end of the evening, we had the pleasure of meeting Chef Quintin Demarre, a passionate French chef whose love for food and taste shines in every dish. His enthusiasm and dedication to his craft truly elevate the entire experience.
And we can’t forget the desserts (Pistache Crème Brûlée and Apricot Granita) – absolutely phenomenal. Rich, inventive, and beautifully presented. We ended with a nice glass of Royal Tokaji white (dessert) wine from Hungary. The perfect sweet ending to an already flawless meal.
Bar 56 is an absolute must-visit for anyone in New York City. It’s worth the short trip to Brooklyn just to experience this level of culinary excellence and genuine hospitality in a great upcoming area. Michelin-worthy in every sense. We’ll definitely be back – and we’ll be telling everyone we know to go.
