One of the better Italian restaurants in Brooklyn. It's fairly dark inside, making it feel like a speak easy with a nicely stocked bar. The waitress was very knowledgeable and was able to address dietary concerns. Going early is a great thing to do since this restaurant gets packed and at times requires a reservation. Going earlier will mean families, but as the night goes on, more couples show up making it more of a location to bring dates. Street parking can be found but be patient; there is a lot of traffic going around the neighborhood. The grandma pizza is very good; everything is also excellent... However we had difficulty determining which favor was which for the ice cream!

Our entire order was served at once. No one wants their cocktail, appetizer and entrée at the same time. Service etiquette can be better observed. The food itself is standard at best considering the other Italian options within that 3 block radius.
On a positive note, the ambiance is inviting and cozy.

Really good food, I especially enjoyed the ricotta and the steak. The fresh baked pita with the ricotta was unbelievable. I didn’t find the chairs very comfortable.

Great vibe, fantastic gluten free pizza. Grabbed a pie for take out but looks like an incredible, nice cozy spot!

Can’t believe I just discover this restaurant! Everything we ordered was so delicious—highly recommend the brussel sprouts and meatballs, just so good! Also, the chicken parm and mushroom linguine were some of the best we’d had since coming back from Italy! Service was so smooth and the ambiance of the dim lights, classy decor, and great menu options just made our special occasion dinner even more memorable.

I will say that sometimes the food comes out cold, which I'm not sure if it's because they keep it sitting for a while or if it's being lazily prepared. However, the taste is definitely fantastic and I can't rave enough about the grandma pizza they have!

The crust is great, and if you try the vodka sauce on it, it pairs with the bread so perfectly.

I would also recommend the garlic bread with burrata as that was also a highlight for appetizers!

🚨🚨🚨DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE CELIAC DISEASE!!!!!!!!🚨🚨🚨🚨 my friend is visiting and we ordered the gluten free saffron gigli, gluten free cacio e pepe, and gluten free caesar salad. We asked several times on the phone when we were ordering for takeout that they wrote gluten free on the order and they said yes definitely which put us at ease. Two hours after we eat (exactly the same time frame when she’s gotten sick other times after eating gluten unknowingly), my friend is now so sick and feels awful. After reaching out to a friend that has eaten there, she told me that the same thing happened to her friend too and they gave her a gift card for her troubles. This is not something to mess up. This is insane and I feel horribly for my friend who is so sick now :( not a gf friendly place

We had an 8:30 reservation and showed up early at 8 to grab a drink at the bar while waiting for the table. We didn’t get seated until 9:15. Once we finally sat down, our waitress didn’t come over for another 20 minutes. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and pasta. Drinks and apps eventually came out, but then… nothing. After sitting for over an hour, we noticed tables that were seated after us already getting their pasta, the place clearing out, while our main dish was nowhere to be found, and our waitress was nowhere to be seen.

We finally asked another waitress (who was actually very kind and helpful) to check, and she found out our pasta never got made because “the system glitched” and the cooks never received the order. Which apparently “happens often”. At that point, we skipped the pasta completely, it had already been way too long.

We ended the night with the rainbow cookie dessert, which was the only highlight; it was amazing. But the rest of the experience was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. You can see in the background of the picture below that the restaurant is completely empty by the time we finally got our dessert. Not a single apology, and nothing done to make up for the long wait and total lack of service. Definitely won’t be back.

Barano is our go-to neighborhood spot whenever we’re craving great pasta. The chef perfectly balances Italian classics with creative, modern, and seasonal dishes that keep the menu feeling fresh. Honestly, everything on the menu is worth trying!

10/10 food, service, and atmosphere. We came here for our anniversary and it was truly a magical experience. Our servers were super kind and attentive. The music and ambiance were perfect. And the FOOD? Phewww on another level. Our favorites were Nonna’s Rainbow Pie, the meatballs, and of course the rainbow cookie sundae. This is the perfect spot for a date night and some of the best Italian food we’ve had in Brooklyn.

I would totally recommend! The service is great, food is fresh, simple and well prepared. We had a mix of appetizers and pasta, which was perfectly cooked! The wine and cocktail selection is just what you need!
