I had a very concerning experience at this place during their Greek night event. The night was completely chaotic and poorly managed.
At one point, the manager or a staff member grabbed a chair, dragged it across the floor, and hit my hand with it. My finger still hurts four days later. After that, he threw the chair out of the bar and started yelling at everyone to leave through a specific door.
This was extremely irresponsible and unsafe. Instead of calmly guiding people out, staff created confusion and panic by yelling and forcing people toward one exit. Situations like this can easily lead to injuries when a place is crowded.
I did not say anything at the moment because I did not want to escalate the situation or ruin the night for the people I was with, but looking back, the way this was handled was unacceptable.
If there had been a real emergency such as a fire, I am honestly concerned about how dangerous the situation could have become.
Crowd safety and respectful treatment of customers should always be a priority.
Because of this experience, I do not feel safe returning to this place.

One of the best cafes I’ve seen. Tons of character, very nice service and excellent coffee. There are cool events all the time too
The ambiance is beautiful, and the activities are so fun, culturally diverse and authentic. Definitely, Atiq is running the place with full courtesy, genuine respect and friendliness with his crew.

What a beautiful place that is. You can always walk in and witness great musicians creating amazing art, no matter who's playing. And the owner, Atigh, so kind and personable. Barzakh became a favorite of mine very quickly.

Can’t say enough what a beautiful gem this place is. It’s not just a place you go for tea (though the tea is the best I’ve had in a long time), it’s a place you go to read treasured literature, to learn about different cultures, to listen to beautiful music, and to be a part of a welcoming community fostered by the very kind owner. Can’t sing Barzakh’s praises enough, definitely check it out 🫶🏼

My partner and I had our wedding ceremony here and it was absolutely lovely. The owner Atigh and the rest of the staff are hospitable and enormously helpful. Every interaction we had with them felt authentic and warm. They were nice to Everyone and the atmosphere is both beautifully colorful and cozy. Perfect for an intimate wedding. We had about 40 or so people, and with tables and chairs set up it was more than enough room.
We were able to arrange the place as we pleased and the owner did several walk through with us. It was a sharp contrast with the range of other venues we reached out to. Many other places felt corporate and like they were trying to squeeze more money out of us. Barzakh was also so so affordable and very flexible with us setting up early and lingering afterwards.
It's a really special, community oriented place. I'm so happy somewhere like this exists in ny.
