While visiting New York with a friend, we stopped at Betty Bakery. Prior to ordering, I reviewed the posted menu sign, which did not indicate any additional charge for oat milk. I ordered three hot chocolates with oat milk.

When I was charged, the cashier attempted to add an additional $1 per drink for the oat milk, bringing the total to approximately $22. This surcharge was not communicated at the time of ordering and was not reflected on the posted pricing. Upon noticing the discrepancy, I politely requested that the displayed price be honored.

In response, the cashier became unprofessional, making remarks about recent price changes, the cost of chocolate, and stating that I had “messed it up” for other customers. This interaction was unnecessary and inappropriate, as my request was simply to be charged the advertised price.

Although the owner ultimately issued a refund, the resistance and commentary from both the cashier and the owner were unwarranted and detracted from the experience. I believe this situation could have been handled more professionally and with clearer communication regarding pricing.

The place is incredible. AJ from the counter told me about how hard the owner worked to perfect his recipe. It’s my go to spot after a long day

Cumin lamb pies and spinach egg pies are so good! Crust is buttery and flaky, and the lamb was perfectly seasoned.

We placed a custom vegan cupcake order from Betty Bakery for a special event, specifically noting a few allergens. Unfortunately, those allergen requests were not honored, and our guests with sensitivities became sick. While their reactions were thankfully mild and not life-threatening, it did derail the rest of our evening and was deeply disappointing. We will not be ordering from here again!

Wow! On a random solo adventure, I stumbled across this bakery and I love chocolate cake so I was hoping that I can get a slice before i went home. A little after being home I completely forgot I bought a sweet treat! I was pleasantly surprised with how rich and moist this Valrhona chocolate cake was. It was so good currently wishing I could’ve bought an entire Cake. 🤣🤣🤣🩵🩵🩵 definitely the kind of cake that makes you want a glass of milk🤭😆

I love their savory pies! We get a dozen at a time and stock the freezer, easy lunch or kids meal always on hand. The Argentine Beef and the Cumin Lamb are the adults favorites, the kids love the Bacon Egg and Cheese and the Steak and Cheese.

The guy on the phone said it’s the best and it is.

Easily the best Carrot Cake in NYC, and yes, I’ve had Lloyd’s, Hani’s, Billy’s, Carrot Top, Mia’s, Little Cupcake (which is actually not good at all), and many many others.

It has very similar cake layers to Lloyd’s and is truthfully not quite as warming, dense, or rich of a mouthful, but the icing is perfectly balanced. Velvety mouthfeel, not gritty or mealy like Lloyd’s, and not nearly as sweet. It’s a very dreamy nostalgic bite, and from someone who has tried hundreds of carrot cakes recipes at home and out at bakeries, this is as good as it gets.
