Though I don’t usually write reviews, I felt compelled to after hearing of others’ unpleasant experiences and, soon after, having one of my own.

After craving pie, I travelled to Betty Bakery as it is marketed as having much to offer in its pie department. I bought a cherry pie. Since there are not many places in Brooklyn that offer mini pies at their frequency, you can only imagine how repulsed and additionally confused I was to find the state of this pie; dough raw and inedible, the pie filling being canned cherries, and an icky pool of cherry liquid sogging and soaking the entire bottom of my box as well as the pie. Before I got a chance to even give this pie the benefit of the doubt it fell apart.

The truth of the matter is, Betty Bakery is on a steady decline — in customer service, in quality—which should ALWAYS be over quantity—and in passion for what they do. As I have been a member of the community for quite sometime, the general consensus is that people are gravitating away from Betty in order to avoid the sour attitude of the owner who seems to have not a bone of pleasantry in his body for the good people he serves. If the nastiness of this guy hasn’t turned you away, let the lack of freshness being sold in a bakery that claims to be fresh do it for you.

For my 60th Birthday celebration, I made an unusual request to have their lemon bundt cake recipe made into a sheet cake to decorate for the celebration; the owner was very attentive and patient. The cake was a HUGE HIT! It looked (simply) marvelous, as I would have it! Delivery was timely, which is very important.

I was gonna leave a better review until I saw the owner responding to another review about the red velvet cake. According to the owner, red velvet cake is chocolate cake dyed red 🤦‍♀️. C’mon now, you’re literally a bakery. I shouldn’t have to explain that the red velvet color is created by the chemical reaction between the cocoa, buttermilk, and vinegar in the cake. If you’re making chocolate cake with red dye then that is not red velvet cake!!! That’s red chocolate cake!

Aside from that, I tried your shepard’s pie, which was fine. I would consider trying your other savory pies maybe. But at the same time when I ordered the ice tea, it tasted moldy. I am afraid that you don’t properly store or freshly bake any of your treats or beverages.

I am incredibly hesitant to try your sweets if you don’t even know what makes red velvet red and you don’t know how to store your food or make it fresh.

You may have convinced me to not come back…

I almost never leave a review but I couldn’t resist giving this place a low rating after tasting their carrot cake cupcake and red velvet cupcake. I ordered the red velvet for my 3 year old son, and he only ate the cream cheese frosting. I was confused at first because he literally never turns down the opportunity to eat cake but after tasting how dry and unsweetened these cupcakes were, I fully understand. These were the hardest cupcakes I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve had Walmart cupcakes that tasted better. The only reason why I even bothered saying anything via reviews is because of how nasty the person replying back to the customers have been in the comments. Imagine the audacity of anyone to have pastries that taste like a brick wall to come back with anything less than humbleness is absurd. I will never go back to this location. I only gave it starts because the employee who served me was cool and because I can’t give it zero.

What a nice surprise, Betty Bakery in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. I got myself a coffee and followed AJ's advice and got the steak and cheese pie for dinner and a slice of carrot cake for dessert and let me tell you, both made my taste buds extremely happy! If my schedule allows it, I will definitely be back, so many more goodies I want to try. In short, good service, nice coffee and most importantly amazing food.

a tad on the expensive side and not the best (cupcakes were a little dry but the icing was very good)

So excited to see a bakery, so I stopped in on a Friday afternoon after 4. I purchased the Shepards pie and a chocolate cupcake with rainbow frosting.

Shepards pie : 15/10 (it was a little cold in some spots) you can get any pie warmed or as is.

Chocolate cupcake: 5/10 it was dry :( great design my daughter didn’t like it as much.

They had cookies, brownies, sweet pies and teas as well. Great place overall atmosphere 10/10

I guess it was late, the guy was just blah lol. Will come back! Already told everyone about the savory pies!

The cookies were hard and thin. They were fine but not very delicious, I was bummed to waste calories on them. I enjoyed my coffee

Walked in hoping to order some pastries. Three guys were working, one was helping a customer. No one greeted me or acknowledged that I was waiting after several minutes. I walked out. I was the only Black person. Didn’t feel welcome.

My contribution to a holiday dinner was the Brown Butter Pumpkin Pie from Betty Bakery. It was scrumptious. Some even said it was the best pumpkin pie they'd ever had.
