Great coffee and atmosphere for chilling out. I recommend that you try the Magick coffee. Lattes are on the milky side. They have sparkling water on tap available to all customers. Food is mostly pastries.
Atmosphere light and airy, and there’s usually space to sit and sip coffee or set up for a little with a laptop. Lovely vibe.

Hands down the best espresso and coffee. You can tell they consider coffee to be an art and are very specific with the beans the use and how they pull a shot of espresso. My only complaint is their location closer to my apartment closed but I walk 30 minutes just to get a coffee here. They also have a frozen oat milk cold brew which is to die for.

Helpful before and after seeing my TBI client
Burly is the best!! We buy their beans all the time. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a great atmosphere to work. They allow dogs inside and even have little treats for them. I especially love that they print the NYT crossword for customers to take. Big fan!!

Such a great spot to get some work done. The cottage core latte with earl grey syrup was fantastic. Also love that they typically have a vegan pastry option or 2 (earlier in the morning).

My favorite coffee shop in Brooklyn as of late! Great vibes and never overcrowded. Very comfortable space with couches, mugs for drinks to stay, and even printed NYT crossword puzzles!

I come to this place regularly and have always had a good experience until today. I came in with friends to work for a bit. I purchased 2 drinks and worked for a few hours, I had to leave around 12, and brought an energy drink with me for the road that I opened as I was packing up and the barista literally walked around the counter and up to me in front of everyone and admonished me for having an outside drink. They must have just introduced this policy because I’ve never heard it before. Prior to me opening my can, the friend next to me ate a granola bar from home and no one said anything to her. Disparate treatment and a weird policy. Sadly I’ll be getting my coffee elsewhere from now on.

Good teas, good quality stuff. But depending on who’s working, the kind of place that gets annoyed at you for asking for a small instead of an 8oz. One cashier is super friendly and sweet- it’s a roll of the dice.

Coffee and atmosphere were good for working, but the man working there was extremely rude. I had asked if they charged extra for oat milk, and he made a condescending remark about how of course it’s extra because it’s “five times the price” in grocery stores. Then proceeded to make a fuss about my friend using the wifi.

Bad coffee and the worst service I’ve ever experienced in the city. I asked the female barista behind the register what she thought was the best latte and was recommended the pumpkin spice latte because the syrup is housemade. I then asked how many pumps or ounces of syrup they typically put and she said “i don’t know, a normal amount” ??? I told her I don’t like sugary drinks and requested it half sweet. When I tasted it all I could taste was syrupy milk so I asked again if it was made half sweet and the male barista who I believe made the drink looked right at me but did not answer, and the barista who took my order said yes. I responded that it’s very sweet and she ignored me. I went back in line to order an extra shot to try and salvage the drink and the barista rang it up as $3.99. I asked if this was the cost of adding a shot to the ($7.75) drink I had already ordered and at that point the male barista interrupted and said yes. I responded politely that I’ll pass and the male barista responded “well coffee costs money!” As a current bartender and former barista I was shocked by the lack of professionalism and care by both of them. Avoid this place because they’ll probably make your drink carelessly and not offer to remake it if it’s incorrect or bad!!!
The only change I would make to Burly is it being open later on the weekdays! This is my favorite coffee shop in a mile radius by every measure -- kind and skilled baristas, comfortable seating, non-deafening music volume, interesting specialty drinks, and lots of light! But it's only open until 4 on weekdays, just when I'm often getting into my afternoon groove. I am thankful that it's open until 6 on the weekends, and hope they have enough success to extend that all week. Truly my happy place! 🙏

if I made a coffee shop it would be this. its perfect. bright but cozy, a couch and loveseat, wall of windows, tables, a spacious clean bathroom. A selection of summer iced teas that would please a southern secessionist, and a cooler with iced beverages at register. Had a cortado and almond croissant - was perfect. Good wifi. Wish I lived in this neighborhood!!
