First of all, it is a beautiful quaint little counter serve cafe w a gorgeous backyard. Eating lunch, however, the food was not great. I ordered an impossible burger, and it was a falafel sandwich. It was, like the falafel bowl we also had, unfortunately dry. The falafel bowl was of grey colors and we quickly had flavor fatigue and didn’t finish it. I never not pack leftover but these we left behind because unfortunately we didn’t love it. Not coming back tbh, the coffee we ordered they only had 1 option and they forgot to serve it.

I want so much to give this place 4-5 stars because I love the place and the people.

A lot of the menu is maybe too ambitious for the kitchen they have? Salads and non-meat menu items are awesome. I didn’t find the chicken touk or kafta to be very good. Also felt that the falafel was on the dry and course side.

Mezzes are also great!

Got the egg & cheese and it was very bland. I do not recommend it. The avocado was slapped on the bread, no salt or pepper seasoning, no flavor at all. And the bread was burnt. I rarely post negative reviews but paying $50 for a breakfast like this is hard to justify. Please do better.

Suggestions to add flavor: salt & pepper, an aioli or spicy sauce, onions or spinach, and for the cheese consider a sharper cheddar, Swiss, or cream cheese.

On the positive side - my husband got the burrito and he enjoyed it, and the matcha was solid.

I got the crabcake sandwich to go the other day and it was SO GOOD. I love the bread they used; it’s a different take on other crab cake sandwiches I’ve had and honestly, one of the best.

I’m in the neighborhood and have been here many times but I may finally be done. Everyone who works at Alula thinks they’re better than working at Alula. Every time I come I have to wait for the server to finish their conversation or check their phone or lean around casually. A few times I’ve left before ordering because they took too long chatting. Shame because the food is good. If you want good food with a less “Brooklyn” attitude I suggest Eagle Trading Co nearby

I’d eat here every meal if I could. I love the menu, the staff, and I truly feel this cafe holds a piece of the neighborhood. The owner is attentive, friendly, and knows how to hire great people.
