I often think back on this year......and Casa Publica puts a smile on my face.
I hosted a milestone birthday at Casa Publica with ease and most of all, satisfaction. The ambiance in the restaurant is absolutely beautiful! When the sunset illuminates the back room you are left in awe. At that time, I said quietly, damn, this place looks like fun. Let's host a party!
During the planning, Tomas, the manager, was very responsive to emails and texts. He accommodated for semi-last minute changes. Well, I'm not one for last minute changes, but sometimes things happen. Anyway, our nut and gluten-free food restrictions wasn't a big deal. A huge plus!
On the day of the event, the entire party was pleased with both the food and the service. The staff did everything right; correct food orders, responsive at the right time (mind-readers), and made extra space for birthday gifts. One more thing, the pre-fixe menu title was customized to fit the occasion.
Casa Publica, thank you for celebrating with us!! You made it our event more than special! See you soon.

Absolutely my favorite Mexican spot far and wide. The food and drinks are incredible and that’s what got me hooked but what’s really special- truly special about this place- is the staff. They treat me as a regular like family. I absolutely love this place!!!!!

This place made amazing cocktails. Their margaritas and house cocktails were delicious. I had the queso fundido and a variety of tacos. Everything was on point. Great salsa music was playing and a very cozy atmosphere. Great place for a cute date!

Very rude manager
La Casa Publica is a little gem on Union Avenue in Brooklyn. The restaurant is on a corner, its windows are broad and tall, and the morning light for brunch inspires. You can't top the service or friendly feeling. I recommend the pollo al pibil as an appetizer (pictured). Enjoy!

The best Mexican spot in the neighborhood! Food and drinks to die for and service is incredible. They have an amazing Happy Hour that’s perfect for a fun night out or with a small group of friends.
We ordered the Enchiladas, Carnitas Tacos, Yucca Fries, and Esquites and everything was amazing. The churros to end the night were perfect!!!
Special shoutout to Tomas <33 he made our night so special by being attentive and kind.
Will be back soon!

Best Mexican restaurant in Williamsburg. Great food, especially the guac, tacos, enchiladas, chilaquiles, the omelette, and the churros. Great margaritas (esp cucumber jalapeño) and happy hour - and brunch is so good. Very cute, outdoor seating, & kind staff. We love this spot!

The bald guy with a beard has a bad attitude problem. He was rude and condescending, just for inquiring about an outside table. We were honestly shocked. He also said with a great deal of hostility and belittling intent that he’d drop the check for us to leave promptly for a table that never showed up. It was so bizarre and unwelcoming. Everyone else on staff was great - the other servers were totally fine. But this one guy's bad attitude ruined the whole night for our group. His behavior was so disrespectful that it's going to stick with us for a while. The food was ok and the restaurant vibe was fun, but we all agreed we wouldn't go back because of him.
Edit: I just searched for “beard”/“bearded”/“host” in the reviews and see that many patrons have also commented on his bad behavior. This is a recurring issue that should be looked into.

If you’re on the fence about going here… don’t bother. This place used to be great. Not sure what happened. Went once and had a sub par meal and weirdly bad margarita. Gave it another chance and it was even worse. Food quality seems to have taken a dive and everything seems overly prepped like it was made the day before. The “grilled” shrimp were practically boiled and didn’t have any sign of char whatsoever, the chips were basically crushed crumbs, and the tuna tartare seemed off (used to be my favorite!). Simply put, the food here is not justifiable of the prices, and not to mention the mid service and unusually rude host.

I’ve been a repeat customer of this restaurant for quite some time and have often recommended it to friends, family, and community members, as a native Brooklynite. This past Saturday, I happened to be in the neighborhood and stopped by to quickly run to the bathroom.
Upon entering, I politely asked a waiter with a beard where the bathroom was. His response was, “What about the bathroom?”, an unnecessarily rude and dismissive tone. I repeated that I was simply looking for the restroom, and he abruptly told me it was for customers only and I would not be allowed to use it.
As someone with a chronic illness protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), I was experiencing an urgent medical need. I didn’t feel comfortable discussing the details in that moment, but the way I was treated, with suspicion and disrespect, was unacceptable. The staff made no effort to handle the situation with empathy or even basic courtesy.
Unfortunately, after this experience, I can no longer support this establishment. I won’t be returning, and I’ll be advising my friends, family, and local community to take their business elsewhere. Kindness and respect should be the foundation of any customer interaction, especially for those who have supported a business repeatedly.
