If I could give a 0 star review, I would have and here’s why! My friend and I were booked to have dinner at Cecily but due to an unforeseen situation (hello sick kid!), we asked their management to reschedule to the next day. We didn’t want to cancel, we wanted to reschedule which they REFUSED to let us do! They canceled our reservation, charged us the $40/pp cancellation fee, made a note to send us the link to their cancellation policy, even though we asked to reschedule and NOT cancel. In a nutshell, Cecily made $80 off of us because they wouldn’t agree to reschedule, which we were fine to do at an earlier time than our original reservation, and then called it a cancellation that went against their policy (read the fine print people before booking at this place). It’s a hard time for everyone, but to not be flexible and accommodating to customers who actually wanted to dine there, makes me never want to eat here. Which is too bad…I love supporting local restaurants.

We went to Cecily for an event in June, and got to try some of their dishes.

The inside is a bit smaller than I thought, or it is more of an obscure dining room shape. They have a fully stocked bar, and a super friendly and talented bartender.

We had a few cocktails; Pink Panther, Cecily Manhattan, and Passenger Pigeon. The Pink Panther was not pink as I had hoped, but it was tasty. Fruity and elegantly sweet, really nice cocktail. Cecily Manhattan was strong, reminded me of Old Fashion. A nice, relaxing drink in the evening. Passenger Pigeon was aromatic and flavorful, with just the right amount of sweetness.

Food we tried:
Grilled Scallops had a great aroma of the yuzu. They were plump and soft, perfect texture, delicious!
Little Gem Caesar was super fresh. The piparra pepper had a nice little kick, Anchovies gave bold flavor and added texture.
Mussel Toast was divine! Garlic aioli is the bomb, while chili butter gives subtle kick that is so delightful.
Half Roasted Chicken was super moist, and packed with flavor. So tender, easy to cut with butter knife. It had crispy exterior, each bite was amazing.

For dessert, we had Mom’s Strawberry Cake. It was magically delicious. I believe they added strawberry compote into the whipped cream, making it extra flavorful and tasty. It had loads of fresh strawberry compote under the cream.

The staffs were nice, they took a really good care of us during the event. The drinks and food were great, we enjoyed them all. This is such a neighborhood gem, we would love to go back again in a near future to try more of their dishes!

Cute place but the food was so mid
Why deep fry a skate wing? (And not even make it clear on the menu)
Rice and squash were too sweet, the sweet sauces overpowered the taste.
The mussels had too much spicy going on and the tuna crudo was not very good quality.

Wow, best restaurant experience I've had in a while. The atmosphere was lively, but still quiet enough that you can easily have a good conversation. Service was polite, helpful, and unobtrusive. And the Food! In the immortal words of Sum 41, it was all killer, no filler. Mussel toast and hamachi crudo were highlights for me. Great wine selection and solid cocktails. I will be back!

Excellent dinner all around. Loved the vibe, service and food - hitting on all cylinders! Love all of the options up in Greenpoint.

The chilled red wine was great to pair with pretty much everything on the menu. Stand out food orders from the night were the Hamachi Crudo, Charred Broccoli Rabe, Okonomiyaki Rice, Chicken and Almond Cake.

We made the reservation about 1-2 weeks in advance - highly recommend!

It’s worth going for the pudding alone… and I don’t even like pudding.

We had a great dinner here. There were 4 of us with 2 kids. We ordered everything on the menu and had a feast. They were very accommodating to the kids and one of us with a mobility impairment. Most importantly, the food was delicious!!!

Kid-friendliness: They were great and the kids loved the food also

Wheelchair accessibility: We collapsed the wheelchair and stashed it by the door. They gave us a table right near the door!

Cocktails were real and good some lost. The food is sublime. Hamachi Crudo, Mussel Toast, Broccoli Rabe, Pork Belly… Service is friendly and polite and the interior is elegant and subdued. We’ll be back.

The service was very slow, and the Okonomiyaki rice dice was quite oversalted, making it difficult for us to finish our dinner. At the end, the waiter neglected to bring us back our credit card and we had to locate them.

So good. Such a nice team. Foods so good - mussel toast, rice, pork chop are a must, but there isn’t a dish that doesn’t hit tbh. 10/10

I debated writing this review because being in the restaurant industry, I understand the gravitas of negative online statements. However, one of my best friends and I came in to Cecily on Tuesday (9/17) excited to experience the restaurant, surrounded by such positive hype—during a time we were celebrating a personal/professional achievement. We did not have a reservation and the host/manager(?) accommodated us at the bar. Initially we were super excited about the evening, however, the bartender working that night was dismissive and downright rude, and honestly killed the celebratory vibe. I hope he was just having an off night. After we ordered, he seemed to stumble over what we had said, struggling to repeat it back our dishes, and then stopping with an incomplete order. My friend, trying to help began to repeat the order. The bartender quickly cut him off, saying “umm would you let me finish?!” This was a shock to both of us, especially because after that outburst he still forgot to send us one of our dishes; and tried to question us about whether it had dropped or not. Additionally there was no check-in about the food from the staff. Will definitely not be returning. A shame though, the food seemed to be decent, as was the wine. Extremely poor service.

The ideas for the menu is really good but unfortunately they couldn’t deliver what was expected. The atmosphere is very nice but unfortunately the food and the service were disappointing. Some of the dishes we ordered have never arrived.

I was really excited to try Cecily to have another go-to spot in the neighborhood. The food was really good and so was the ambience but our server was extremely rude and condescending which really watered down the experience for me and my group.

Should’ve seen this coming when he was wearing cargos and boat shoes in 2024.
