Chun Vegetarian in Brooklyn has become one of my favorite spots, and one of the main reasons for that is their Buddha Bowl. It’s one of those dishes that I can keep coming back to without ever getting tired of it. Whenever I want something that’s hearty, fresh, and still feels good for my body, this is exactly what I order.
The Buddha Bowl is a colorful mix that hits all the right notes. It usually comes packed with kale, spinach, sweet potato, avocado, carrots, cherry tomatoes, quinoa, and fresh strawberries, and everything is tossed together with this delicious house-made sauce that I can never get enough of. The sauce is creamy, tangy, and has just the right amount of flavor to coat the ingredients without overpowering them. One container isn’t nearly enough for a bowl this size, so I always ask for extra, and they’re kind enough to give it to me with no extra charge. That’s huge, because the sauce really ties everything together and makes every bite hit.
What makes this bowl substantial is the sweet potato. It’s hearty, filling, and gives the whole dish that extra comfort factor. The sweet potato adds a natural sweetness that balances the leafy greens and makes the bowl feel complete. The avocado brings a creamy texture that smooths out the crunch from the kale and carrots, while the spinach keeps it fresh and light. The cherry tomatoes are juicy and bright, the carrots add crispness, and the strawberries bring those bursts of tart sweetness that make the whole thing unique. The quinoa is in there too, but it’s really the sweet potato that carries the weight and turns this into a meal that keeps you full.

It feels like a neighborhood spot where they really care about what they’re serving and about keeping things consistent. Whether I’ve ordered it to-go or eaten in, the quality has always been reliable.
At the end of the day, this Buddha Bowl is one of my go-to meals in Brooklyn. Between the hearty sweet potato, the fresh greens, the avocado, the strawberries, and that amazing sauce that they happily give extra of at no charge, it’s become a staple for me. Whenever I want a bowl that feels both nourishing and indulgent, Chun Vegetarian is the first place I think of.

Absolutely authentic Chinese vegan food. They use soy to make mock meats the same way that you'd find at a Vegetarian restaurant near a Buddhist temple in Beijing. Blows the stuff that Impossible Foods makes out of the water. (As it should, since the Chinese have been making mock meats for the better part of a millennium.) Also, the mapo tofu is the best that I've had in America to date. But a warning for for mapo purists: I'm not a numbing spice guy, so their version why he uses chilis to bring the heat is great for me, but it could disappoint anyone who may have fallen in love with the dish in Sichuan.

The only reason I took a star off is because they used too many chilies. I tried two different dishes on two separate visits. I love spice but it overpowered the main dish. I will ask them to cut back next time because I'm not trying to have indigestion. Otherwise everything was great.

Miso so sorry I ordered the vegetable pad thai. Horribly greasy with not many vegetables at all. In addition they used a vermiculite noodle. Also very very spicy. All wrong
The boneless ribs were the best thing I had so far. I tried the orange chicken and it tasted very orange-y and hard to chew. I also had the scallion pancake and it tastes good with the sauce they give you for it. The steak and cheese taste like a philly cheese steak and it was pretty good too. Give this place a try ?

i love the food here and have been an incredibly loyal customer here for 4+ years but the phone order service i just received was unforgivable.
all i wanted to do is order food over the phone for delivery and the person taking the order gave me the most unnecessary attitude. I called her out for being mean to me on the phone and i’ve placed orders here before to which she said she was “unwell”
now i get we’re all tired but that i wasn’t even able to place an order over the phone, I didn’t want to give the business my money.
You were great Chun but seriously remember that you are still a business and we value you. just please value us in return.
