The biggest perk about this place for me is that the laptop free for the most part of when they are open. So anyone who's trying to do some work on a computer usually steers clear of this place, leaving the atmosphere for individuals who just want to enjoy a book, conversation, or other things than...well, just that! Service is always amazing. The pastries are always great. They're accommodating for people who are vegan, so they make a pretty mean cappachino with oat milk.

I am CRAZY about the pastries here! LOVE the almond chocolate croissants. Espresso is perfectly crafted and the staff couldn’t be more friendly. I walk past two other coffee shops to go here because it is 5x more enjoyable and the quality of food and staff cant be beat! I found this spot by walking by and after reading up on the owners backstory - it all makes sense… he is passionate and it shows! Again, i am crazy for croissants in generally and this place hits the mark perfectly. Prices are reasonable considering the spot down the street charges similar for sub par croissants and weird service. Certainly worth going out of the way to go to Der Pioneer.
Plenty of outdoor space out back, inside can get a bit packed during rush hours. Plenty of people bring their kids here, they are friendly to people with laptops but have windows for laptops on certain tables to ensure people can find a spot.

That Strejselschnecke pastry is a star. I took a bite into it and my life was changed. I don’t know what kind of day I was going to have prior to the Strejselschnecke but it was literally impossible to have less than a great day after eating this. 10/10 no notes. Also the staff is always really nice.

I ordered a cake from Der Pioneer for my partner's birthday. He'd recently mentioned how much he enjoyed our wedding cake (lemon poppyseed, baked by a fellow who has since retired) and so I wanted to see if I could get him something similar for the occasion (and to perk him up while he convalesces). A couple of phone calls later, Chef Bjorn made sure that the texture and taste would be what I was hoping for - after discussing a pound cake first, he suggested a sponge with poppyseed, and lemon in the cream between the layers as well as the topping.
It was a hit! Light and moist, with good lemon flavor reminiscent of a lemon bar in all the best ways, it checked all the boxes, and pickup couldn't have been easier from the friendly and efficient staff, even mid-Sunday morning rush.

I am visiting family in the area and I live in the Midwest. My son took me here. The food and cappucino was so delicious! I had vegetable quiche and a pastry. I went back today for the best egg salad sandwich I have ever eaten. They make their own mayonnaise! The staff were also very welcoming. 5 stars-highly recommend.

Friendly folks! So warm inside, I don’t complain about prices I believe people who do that are silly and should just go somewhere else but the ice charge did throw me off a bit, never seen that before- but it’s NY so hey lol But my iced matcha latte was good!

Der Pioneer is a nice place with welcoming stuff and tasty snacks. My matcha had a delicious flavour. However, the one drawback is the limited seating. The space is small, and it can feel a bit cramped, especially during busy hours.

Food is delicious. I’ve gotten a few things when I used to work in the area. I tried to get the too good to go bag because I’ve seen others get a bunch of goodies. In my bag today 9/21/24 I got 2 bread rolls and 1 piece of vegan cake not a fan) . I guess it’s better to just pay $5 and get 1 thing you actually want. I drove 17 minutes out of my way to pick it up thinking I’d get stuff to share with the kids on a Sunday evening. There were a bunch of sandwiches and things left over in the stand but I guess you hey what you get.
