Not worth the money. Corned beef and tongue were tasteless. Go to Katz deli

Spent my birthday at Essen. Never been before. I was impressed. The place is huge, and was packed for a Monday night. Service was friendly. Food, quite excellent. Flavorful matzoh ball soup. Had a knish, loaded with brisket and gravy. Pastrami on rye, juicy and generous.

My husband and I just left and everything was phenomenal! Definitely try the matzo soup, sesame chicken and hot pastrami. They were delicious and not too salty. The pickles were so fresh too! It’s so clean and nice inside so I’m glad we stayed to dine in.. Our server and the lady at the front register were so nice and welcoming. We for sure will be back :)

The restaurant is located in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. They prepare kosher deli cuisine. Prices for food that is kosher are generally higher. I ordered two lunch specials. The hot corned beef option has an additional charge. The sandwich had a nice generous amount of tasty and not salty meat. I selected that both sandwiches be prepared with rye bread. Customers have an option of selecting a soup or french fries. The special also includes a beverage option. The roasted turkey was a nice sandwich. I ordered the matzo ball with noodles and mushroom barley soups. The kasha varnishkes was good but did not include any gravy. The restaurant was previously on Coney Island Avenue but moved to a new and improved location on Avenue J.

Great food. Service and atmosphere can be bit cranky. Overall i keep them on 5 star, for well managing the place for decades with high quality food and flavors!
