Heavy Woods used to be one of those Bushwick spots where you could count on a solid plate of food to cut through the noise. Burgers smashed right on the grill, gumbo with some backbone. You went for the food, not just the drinks.
Now the prices keep climbing while the soul leaks out. Burgers taste like they came out of a freezer box. The gumbo is so flat you wonder if anyone in the kitchen even tasted it. And the tab at the end feels like a joke when you know there are better places all around the neighborhood.
It is sad really. Heavy Woods had something once. These days it just does not make sense to go back.

The staff make you feel unwelcome the moment you come in. Especially this one sad bald man with a beard, awful energy. Its not my fault they're burnt out from trying to settle and gentrify in my neighborhood, its a spot for regulars and cliques to be honest. Wouldn't recommend this place. Walked right out.

We came in to play pool and were told by the bartender we had to buy food or drinks to get quarters. Fine, my boyfriend ordered a beer. Not even a minute later, another couple walked up and got quarters without buying a single thing. When I asked why, the bartender snapped back that “they’re regulars” and brushed it off.
That kind of favoritism and rude attitude is unacceptable. We came ready to spend money and enjoy ourselves, but instead got treated like second-class customers. If this is how they run their business, they don’t deserve anyone’s regularity. We won’t be back—and I’d strongly advice others not to waste their time here either.

Absolutely Disgusting Experience – Discriminatory and Unprofessional Behavior
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I came in with my sister and friends for what was supposed to be a fun night out, but instead, I experienced the most disrespectful and discriminatory treatment I’ve ever faced at any establishment.
The bartender – flat-out refused to serve me without giving any reason. He served my friends. He served my sister. But when it came to me? He ignored me completely and moved on like I didn’t exist. I asked why, and was met with complete silence and attitude. There’s no other way to call it: this was targeted, personal, and racist.
Here’s the part they probably didn’t expect: I work for the health department. I know exactly what standards businesses are expected to uphold — not just in sanitation, but in conduct, professionalism, and equal treatment of all guests. What I witnessed here was a blatant violation of that, and I won’t just be writing this review — I’ll be escalating it to the appropriate channels as well.
This behavior is unacceptable, disgusting, and absolutely shameful. No one should ever be made to feel like they’re unwelcome or less than, especially when money is being spent and respect is the bare minimum. Management seriously needs to evaluate who they’ve hired, because this bartender is not only a liability to the business — he’s a walking lawsuit waiting to happen.
Avoid this place like the plague. I won’t be back — and trust me, neither will anyone I know.
This is the guy !! Be careful everyone!

I really want to play pool and I also had some downtime between meeting my friends later in that day. So I went and I got a beer and I played some pool. There was only one other person playing so I asked if she wanted to play with me and we had a great time. The bartender was very polite and there was lots of room because it was midday. I was a bit hungry so I got the Kale Caesar with the crispy chicken, which was amazing.

Have no clue how the food taste, but the servers? Incredibly rude. Sitting outside with 3 friends and 2 people surrounding us when we were “warned” by an employee to get rid of the empty pizza box we had. We say ok, no one has said anything. 5 minutes later someone comes out with this same man who then insists we’ve made them feel dumb by noting an earlier waiter didn’t say anything about the box. We’re then warned again before being yelled at by the employees. We ask them to leave to which one stays and continues to yell at us before us asking them to leave immediately.
Incredibly weird vibes and genuinely would never recommend this place to anyone. Empathy and accountability should always be baked into the foundation of any establishment.

Bartender extremely rude and unprofessional for absolutely no reason. Approached him extremely respectful and he gave me so much attitude and had 0 respect the way he approached me. Disgusting.

Amazing fun place! Sundays bingo from 4-6. I won a tshirt!
The drinks are excellent and super affordable around $12 for a cocktail, the drink I got was so refreshing and delicious.
I also got the catfish po boy which was piled high. The catfish was so good and flavorful. There was slaw and pickles on it as well and the tots had a Cajun seasoning to them. Everything was fried perfectly, i did not feel gross after at all. It was a huge serving and tasted so fresh and delicious.
Bartenders and staff are so nice and welcoming. I wish I lived in Brooklyn! Would come here more often.

This is my favorite bar in bushwick, the best bartenders. Would give five stars but they nixed the jambalaya a year or so ago and I’ve never been the same.
Combo: cider + mac n cheese + billiards

Heavy Woods is a staple of the Bushwick neighborhood. Local dive bar with always super friend staff. The owners are a lovely friendly couple.
For a simple bar, the food is legit.
Pool table in the back, and a patio as well.
