Il Colosseo Ristorante Brooklyn | Italian restaurant

Came here on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was busy. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations. There’s two dining areas. We were seated outside of the main dining area. We made a reservation. The table was ready for us but there was no staff/hostess and the bartender was on the phone. We saw three staffs and all greeted us but none of them asked if we needed help. We had a party of 7 and everybody was there standing by the door waiting.
We ordered the appetizers first cause we were not ready for the entree. We were ready for the entree went the appetizers came but there were no staffs to take our orders. All the staffs were in the main dining room. We wanted swordfish, but no swordfish. We changed to branzino but the staff came back to tell us no branzino. The food was good. I understand it’s a busy night and it might take longer for food. Nobody came to check in on us as we dine.

The restaurant is located in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn and was established in 1991. They prepare Italian cuisine. Tables are available for customers to dine in with servers. 🍲 Soup, salads 🥗, appetizers, pasta, sides, pizza, entrees, desserts and beverages are options. I ordered the pollo toscano which is grilled chicken breast with yellow and green grilled zucchini, asparagus and roasted peppers over spinach risotto with a balsamic glaze. The shrimp scampi is sautéed in garlic, white wine and lemon with risotto. The food was very good and well-prepared.

Nothing is consistent. I ordered a veal to go. What is this. I’ve been coming to this restaurant for years. I’ve ordered this specific dish many times and this never how it’s presented weather it’s to stay or to go. Disappointment. Otherwise the service is fantastic and the dishes themselves are excellent. Hopefully this is a one off. I’m happy to update my review in the future if this doesn’t repeat.

Very tasty spot! Their food is very good. We got a tre gusti pizza (delicious), veal picatta (a lil chewy), and chicken lemonata. They flavors were spot on. Majority of the staff is all from Italy & are speaking Italian amongst each other which is nice to see. I will def return here to eat again.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted like family. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, attentive without hovering, warm without being over the top. You can tell they genuinely care about both the food and the people they serve. Every dish tasted like it came straight from a kitchen in Italy. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors perfectly balanced, and the portions generous without being excessive. You could taste the love and tradition in every bite. It’s rare to find a restaurant that nails both authenticity and hospitality like this place does. I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit.
