I got their burrito with Al pastor and it was amazing. I’m from California so my standards for Mexican food is higher than most New Yorker’s, but this place lives up to that potential. The burrito was soo good. Every aspect of it was just so damn tasty. I’m definitely coming back to try their tacos and guacamole next.

My favorite neighborhood spot! Ilegal is just a really wonderful restaurant, owned and operated by warm & kind people who are clearly passionate about hospitality in the truest sense of the word.
I usually order their tacos, but their pozole is amazing, too. I think they're known for their al pastor (which is so, so good) but their tripe & shrimp tacos are a standout, in my opinion. I didn't know a shrimp taco could be so tender. If you can handle heat, you have to ask for their salsa macha. It might make your nose run, but it's worth it, especially if you order one of their delicious micheladas to cool off. Food aside, the music is always good, and I am often shazam'ing songs while dining in. I love their backyard in the summertime, but the inside is colorful and festive. Ilegal forever <3
