One of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood! Have been there for brunch and dinner. Crispy eggs with the potato roesti is immaculate. James make vegetables exciting! Order everything - family style or bust!

I would recommend a James for brunch! I haven't been for dinner, but I had an amazing brunch on Sunday with a friend. Lemon ricotta pancakes are AMAZING. Bloody Marys, crispy eggs, and truffle fries were GREAT!

This place has gone downhill. It used to be such a treat - I haven’t been since COVID but I have such fond memories of many delicious meals there in what used to be a beautiful space. I was so excited to go back tonight but every single dish we got was disappointing in some way (lime granita with the oysters that was so frozen it was inedible, skate that was too salty, burrata that was way too salty and somehow off tasting, etc). The timing was rushed so all our food came out when we had no room on the table for what we were eating, and certainly no room for new plates. Hope this was just an off night.

Overall a nice experience. Service, drinks and food were great quality. The summer burger was very substantial. The inside also looked really beautiful and open and clean.

Another excellent meal at James… the burger and steak are standouts and both change seasonally so that they are always new and interesting. The snow peas were fresh and nicely prepared for season starter. Two thumbs up!

I had a dinner here maybe 4 years ago that I remembered as one of the best I've ever had. I don't know if last night was an off night, or if I just ordered badly, or if the restaurant just got worse, but I returned with high expectations and was very disappointed.I ordered the cornmeal-"dusted" skate, which was overwhelmingly salty -- I couldn't taste anything else. The cornmeal "dust" was a full-on crust that had no flavor except for salt, and the piece of skate itself was so thin relative to the crust that it contributed nothing in terms of flavor or texture. It was topped with a tiny amount of preserved lemon gremolata that added more salt but not much flavor, and one single leek leaf that was too small to add anything at all. It sat on lentils that tasted fine on their own but were, again, salty. There was just nothing on the plate that wasn't salty, nothing that offered any contrast or relief.Considering the menu only has a few protein options, it's surprising that this one was so bad. (It also doesn't seem to be a new recipe -- I saw another review from six months ago complaining about the saltiness of the same cornmeal-crusted skate.)We also got some herb fries, which were crispy and tasty despite having no herbs to speak of. Side of snow peas with asparagus was nice but nothing special. Their drink selection is good and my cocktail (the smoky paloma) was very tasty.

The cocktails are meh. The food tries a bit too hard to be artisanal. Results vary: the starters work but things like the Spring burger not really. Also good ambiance and service. Until it hits 9.50 when they rush to close. I know it's prospect heights but still you cannot close that early.

Such a lovely restaurant with such a great vibe, great decor, fabulous drinks and beautifully crafted dishes. Everything is so fresh and well thought out. The staff is super friendly and the place is always busy. Definitely make sure to grab a reservation on Resy if you want to ensure getting a table. I'd highly recommend the seasonal burger from the kitchen and also the Smoked Paloma from the bar. So many other gems to explore on the menu. I'd order a whole bunch of things and share amongst your guests so you can get the full experience!

Lovely place and great food. The waiters were great at recommending meals and helping with all our questions.

Made a reservation and were sat outside — we asked to be moved inside (it was 5:45 pm and there were plenty of open tables) but they declined. Sat outside in the freezing cold since they charge for cancellations. Perhaps we just didn’t complain enough because another table arrived after us and were moved inside when they requested. Then the heater died above our table ?Food was just okay, definitely overpriced for what it is (even by NYC standards). Was excited to try this place out but definitely won’t be back.

A neighborhood favorite—the entrees always have a seasonal touch and are always delicious. The burger and hangar steak are standouts, as well as the cocktails. The staff are also usually pretty friendly (but super busy), even through the challenges of the past two years. Reservations are a must for evenings and weekends

I don't usually care enough about service to mark a place down but this was truly terrible. It was a shame because the food was good if a little over priced. I won't go in to everything that happened but just the most notable incident...on clearing plates from the table the server dropped a fork that knocked over my husband's Bellini. It spilled all over the table. The server went off with the plates and I assumed he'd be back with a cloth. Nope. He just carried on clearing other plates from our group. I cleaned it up with my napkin. At this point he had not even said sorry. He overheard a member of our group saying he hadn't said sorry. Came over and said "sorry about that". Still didn't take the wet napkin of replace the drink. He brought the check. My husband asked if he could top up his drink. He replied "yes I'm going to do that" as if he was always intending to, which clearly he wasn't. Then he brought back a glass with a small amount of champagne in it. Pic provided ?. The drink was 2/3rds full when spilled. This was one of about 5 different instances of terrible service. Actually some of the worst I've had in Brooklyn. Just a shame. Didn't spoil the brunch as it was so bad it was basically comical but if you care about service it's not for you.

Did a pick up order today-Brussel sprouts-cauliflower-sweet potatoesMy order was warm and ready for me to pick up when I got there. I didn't have to wait at all.All were great, flavorful, clean. I'd definitely do a sit down meal there.Pro tip: be careful handling the cauliflower if you have a light colored manicure. It will stain!Besides that, great meal :-)
