Tonight, I ordered the fish maw chicken soup and the cold cucumber scallion salad. The latter was crunchy, refreshing, and satisfyingly well-balanced in its herby dressing with crushed peanuts. The soup was hot and rich, packed with silky fish maw, springy noodles, four kinds of mushrooms, lettuce, bouncy fried tofu, tofu skin, and tender poached chicken. Beautiful, fresh, comforting, delicious! The restaurant was basically spotless with cheerful vibes and prompt service. Other customers were either chatting happily or eating. 5 stars. I'm already planning my return to try the mala tripe soup.

We really enjoyed the hot noodle soup and great appetizers. We got excellent service from our server Elena. She's very attentive, suggested good recommendations and overall provided great service.

We started off with some appetizers (shredded potatoes salad and the crispy coconut lava ball). The shredded potatoes salad was delicious and the perfect balance of savory and tangy. The crispy coconut lava balls were also really good but I think next time we would save it for a dessert. I got the beef slices tomato soup rice noodles and it was really filling. I love how much beef slices were in it! My bf got the beef brisket sauced mixed noodles and it was also really good! It was giving peanut-ey noodles with Szechuan spice. Everyone here was also really nice and attentive. 10/10 would highly recommend this spot!

My parents are suddenly interested in seeking out new restaurants on 86st, so we found this. I'm amused at how the Cantonese food scene is now filled with northern Chinese cuisines or Chinese originated franchises. The community definitely needs more fast casual (not equivalent to healthy but that would be nice too) Asian eateries that taste good, affordable, and solo diner friendly. This place a direct competitor with Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodles. A lot of my comments below will be a direct comparison with them. We only got the rice noodles. I got the fresh mushroom with fish slices. My mom got the fish maw chicken. My dad got the original soup with beef slices. Food components All rice noodles come with sides (similar to the ones Ten Seconds puts in small plates for you to DIY) which include: enoki mushroom, beech mushroom (?), wood ear mushroom, lettuce, fried tofu, minced meat, scallion, corn, hard boiled quail egg, and tofu skin. I think it's missing the ham, seaweed, and salted vegetables, and the additional ingredients are the two white mushrooms and tofu skin. I prefer the sides here more because the wood ear mushroom has bigger pieces vs the slithers at Ten Seconds. Fried tofu is more dense and substantial than Ten Seconds. I like how the quail egg is hard boiled here so I can eventually eat the whole thing while as the one at Ten Seconds is raw and by the time it gets cooked in the soup, you can't find its remains. The "stone" bowl has a wooden rack which helps employees carry the hot bowls. I think it's a better design than Ten Second's plastic container. I don't think it's related to the container but want to point out that it's less smelly to eat here. I didn't come out with smelly hair and clothes. Yes there's definitely smell but a normal tolerable amount. Taste My family agrees that the soup base here is less artificial than Ten Seconds, but it still has a lot of msg. We all came out with throbbing tongues. We didn't feel thirsty though. I like how my fish broth is more tasteless than the others. My bowl came with 8 pieces of fish. My mom said it's "black fish". I'm amused how I keep finding pieces of it as I eat. It doesn't get rough after being in the broth for a long time. I don't really like its thin and mushy texture. I think the fresh mushroom part refers to the tiny shiitake mushroom pieces in the broth. They were smaller than the size of my thumbnail. They did give me more enoki and beech mushroom compared to my parents' orders. I think it's a good thing how the mushrooms give off a lot of water, so my broth ends up lighter. My mom's fish maw chicken broth is too "strong" and oily and heavy. Whenever I hear chicken broth, I think of the clear light (or concentrated) chicken taste, not a muddled soup. It comes out as a dark yellow color. You can order it without chicken for $3 less. The chicken is tender, but I don't like the marinate on it. $3 for dark meat chicken is quite reasonable and excluding it means not enough protein. I'm torn, but I guess not my problem I won't order this combination myself. Noodles I think they're better than Ten Seconds. It doesn't get as soggy and mushy after in the broth for a long time. It's also more smooth too. Service They were pretty attentive in terms of refilling tea and taking away your trash. They keep on walking back and forth the restaurant when free, but it didn't feel stressful. They don't check in on us if we want to order more (no we don't and I don't mind they didn't ask but just FYI). They didn't rush us to pay when it's near closing time. Interior Upon arrival, something smelled funky. I'm wondering if it's the pig intestine that people have mentioned to be gamey. The smell goes away after a while probably after getting used to it. Perhaps because this is a franchise, each location's décor is a little bit different. I think the 86st one is the "
