Super high quality matcha. I always try to buy my matcha and hojicha from here. You can actually taste the difference and umami quality, and the matcha is super green and rich.
Highly recommend the soba tea latte as well very nutty.
Corn black sesame latte was amazing. They offer multiple alt milks including pistachio and kojioat. Baristas were super friendly and sweet. One saw I was scrap journaling and gave me some kettl stickers đ„°
Thereâs a large table in the center that tended to have seats open up. Noise is moderate - calm background music with lots of indoor chatter. I like that they also offer âcortado matchasâ - aka matcha lattes with half the milk so that the matcha flavor can come through better.
amazing matcha for purists. staff are all super friendly and kind too.
Stylish Japanese café with a strong tea and latte game.
A friend of mine swore this is his favorite Japanese café in the city, so I came by on a weekday morning to see for myself. The dining space had warm wood décor and a calm vibe that seemed perfect for reading or working, but at 9:30 a.m., the space was surprisingly empty.
Anyways, for matcha they offered three varieties, and while they recommended that I try hot to taste the real difference, I opted to have it as an iced matcha latte. After a short discussion with the barista, I went with soy milk in Shirakawa Matcha latte to bring out the umami/salty notes, and it was a good call. Started a bit grassy, but once it settled, it was rich, round, and savoryâjust as described.
I also got the Sobacha latte and the Hojicha late and both were great. Really liked that they didnât rely on sugar or honey to smooth out the bitterness. The hojicha, made with pistachio milk, was nutty, mellow, and full-bodied despite having zero sweetness. Sobacha latte was the most monotonic of the three, but exactly what I needed on a 100°F day. Light, nutty, and mildâvery reminiscent of quinoa shake that I used to love in Korea, but with a more roasted finish.
Weekday food options were limited to pound cakes and cookies. The sake azuki pound cake, served cold, was soft with just enough sweetness to pair well with the drinks. The matcha cookie was solid.
We had an amazing lesson with Jayanna at Kettl. She was very knowledgeable about the different regions of matcha cultivation and shared about how flavour profiles for early / late harvest differ as well as the importance of stone milling for the perfect tea. We had a lot of fun whisking our matcha, learning how to steam milk and pouring latte art. We also got to enjoy a soba cookie at the beginning of the lesson! Finally, after finishing the class, we took advantage of a post-class discount to purchase a couple different matchas to try at home. Would love to try more of their offerings!
Best and purest matcha in NYC. They do matcha classes and actually have a passion for all things tea.
Came here to try matcha for the first time and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere and aesthetic is top tier as well; itâs clear that someone (or multiple people) put a lot of time and thoughtfulness into crafting an intentional space.
Canât wait to come back and try some more items!
This is it
Idk what happen but the matcha latte today was bad milk was clumpy matcha was clumpy whoever made the drinks today needs some reevaluating
I ordered a matcha latte with pistachio milk the milk was bad, tasted awful, and had many clumps at the bottom. This place is inconsistent. i recommend another location this place aint it
Restaurantji Recommends
They are not consistant of making good matcha their pistatio milk tasted like spoiled milk couldnt take another sip.
Cashier was very rude and had a lot of attitude. I went to order two matcha lattes (Uji and one other) and she immediately had attitude. No acknowledgement of my order as I ordered items, and then when I asked the flavor of soft serve, she pointed to a card on the desk. As I was reading it, she explained it was soba and snatched it out my hand. Then, I had ordered a Cookie instead losing my desire to enjoy the soft serve.
She then proceeded to give me an order of soft serve. Hesitant to correct her mistake because of her attitude, I take a bite and she snatches the ice cream from my hand very forcefully with it in my hand. Thereâs a large tendency to snatch. She then throws the cookie to me (with it being the wrong flavor) without any acknowledgment. I then correct her, and say this is the wrong flavor. She then begrudgingly explains that she has to refund my entire cookie and give me a new one. Sure.
My matcha is done, and she hands it to me on the table with no indication which is which. I ask her which flavor is which to which she beckons her co worker who politely explained which flavor was what. Will not be coming back
Lovely tea, but bring back the Yame matchas!!
We ordered a lot of teas here. Our favorite are matcha latte and Gyokuro.
