The food at La Vara is extremely delicious! The octopus is very rich and has an incredible texture. All of the other plates and dishes are also incredibly flavourful. However, the dishes are so rich that you can’t eat much from just one dish, and be prepared to spend a bit of money on your experience here.

The flavors and presentation of the dishes were excellent. The service is very friendly and the experience fully meets my expectations. We tried 9 dishes and 3 desserts, all 100% recommended. Thank you ladies La Vara.

Food was delicious. This restaurant serves seafood primarily but there's some non-fish options that were delicious. Highly recommend.

I stopped by for a quick bite on a busy night and I won’t be coming back.
The fairy-size portions will not sweep you off your feet with extraordinary flavor that would justify the cost. This is something that needs to be pointed out, as a lot of the reviewers seem to either have drunk the Kool-Aid or really don’t know Spanish food and tapas. Tapas are small plates, but they should still have enough food on them that’s visible to the naked eye without a microscope.
I love Spanish food and I often seek out restaurants that serve tapas and Spanish wines, and there are so many options in New York that are reasonably priced and the food is amazing — Casa Mono in Gramercy, Las Ramblas in the West Village (sadly, it closed recently), to name just a couple.
The atmosphere at La Vara was rushed, the pleasantries forced and disingenuous — this is not the kind of place you will leave with a smile on your face.
La Vara certainly does not provide a 5-star culinary experience, and price-wise, ladies and gentlemen, this is a robbery.

Very very very good place! I got a true gastronomic pleasure of dining there. Very fresh and creamy menu. Everything we have tried was simply delicious. I strongly recommend trying their white gazpacho, very unique and tasty. I will definitely be back to try their other offerings.

Really fabulous tapas bar with a diverse menu, good drinks, and great service! We particularly enjoyed the eggplant dish and the salchichón. The sangria, both white and red, was delicious. The service was incredible!! We sat outside and were fully undercover when it unexpectedly started to storm. Overall, we high recommend this spot!

Tapas style portions.
Great, inviting staff. Cocktails were artisan but not over the top. I had a spritz and it was ok but not thrilling. Had their version of a negroni and it was also ok. I felt the meats were a bit under seasoned and I think it was purposeful so that the flavors of the meats could be more prominent. Wasn't really my thing.
The staff was really great and attentive. Our waiter was super knowledgeable about the menu items and the specials.
The dining areas, 3 altogether, we're all very nice. Street tables (covered), inside tables in a dining area beside the bar with a couple of booths and a little back patio. All settings were well styled and quite nice.
Not sure what it was but I just wasn't crazy about the flavors on the meats. The deviled eggs and grilled beans were great.
Might be just what someelse is looking for, flavor wise in the meats
If that happens it would be a 5 star for them because everything else was great.
