I tried L'Antagoniste for dinner for the first time. I usually go for brunch, and it's been a solid choice for many years on Malcolm X in Bed Stuy. Le canard a l'orange was a highlight, but the other dishes were average (moules, salmon). The service, however, was unusually off during our visit. Our server was openly rude and annoyed while we placed our order. After selecting the meals, I gave her my drink order, and as my husband and daughter were about to place their drink orders, she brusquely walked away and said she needed to place our food order before "she forgot." She came back for a few seconds, which gave us enough time to get my daughter's beverage in, and she walked away while my husband was in mid-sentence to ask about the beer selection (his 3rd attempt). We actually considered just leaving at that point because she didn't seem like she wanted to serve us or be there in general. My general rule is anything $50 or above per person should not result in feeling like you're imposing on your server or testing their patience (or memory!)

I loved everything about this place. The cheese plate was a great starter, the wine was appropriately priced, steak was cooked perfectly.

This was a great find! Beautiful gem of a restaurant tucked away in bedstuy. Food recommendations were really appreciated as well as a nice bottle of red wine to pair with our meal. We will definitely come back and highly recommend. Great date spot!

The previous time I ate at L'Antagoniste, the food was sublime. I took my friend last night and was incredibly disappointed. The salad with the cucumber sorbet was very ordinary, piled in a bowl and looking like it came out of a bag. The duck - no one ask for a preferred temperature, so it came inedibly rare, and also every single thing on the plate was tepid, not even warm, let alone hot. One good thing, the bread is fantastic. I feel bad being negative as the owner is so lovely but maybe doesn't realise what is going on. Apologies but I had to be honest.

One of the best places in the neighborhood. The place is super cozy. Everyone working here is friendly. The food is excellent French food. But the real hidden gem is the wine list with lots of really good wines at absolutely reasonable prices. Highly recommended for any occasion.

This is the best kept secret of the neighborhood. It's a NY story- Tibetan-Swiss owner of a French restaurant in Malcom X Blvd. Only in NYC ❤️ And the food is delish. ❤️

L'Antagoniste is a labor of love of the highest order, and the food and service are fantastic. I cannot recommend it enough, and I make a point to bring visitors there every chance I get.

This was my first experience with this restaurant and I went for my birthday with my husband and we had an amazing time. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, the service was great and the food, oh my gosh, the food was absolutely delicious. Them mussels were to die for (I can swim in that broth) and the oysters were so good. The Salade du Marché with that cucumber sorbet and sherry vinaigrette was so different from any other salad I’ve had before but the favorite thing for me was the duck. The Le Canard A L'Orange was fire. I never had duck before and for my first time it was great. I will definitely be visiting L’Antagonists again.
