Ordered the lunch special and got an extra special portion of rice. The Cheng Mai chicken was alright and dry. The general Tso was a bit bland (not enough sauce) had way too much rice not enough protein and left me hungry. Will just head over to Wing Hing Seafood restaurant next time for their lunch- they have better portions for the price.

You'll appreciate the visual thought put in. Team members deliver unexpectedly outstanding attention. The restaurant fulfills expectations. Their food offers excellent flavor. The kitchen knows good food, the employees know good service, and the place feels right.

The atmosphere here feels special. They serve food that's clearly made with fresh ingredients. We were greeted warmly by the restaurant team. The restaurant maintains its level of service. I'll not miss the chance to return.

Shortened version of my much, much longer Yelp review- I went to this Malaysian place a couple of weeks ago with a large group. I have had Malaysian food from many different restaurants, and this was excellent across the board with a couple of definite highlights. The place was crowded and the staff was friendly, though a bit overwhelmed, so it took a while for the food to come out. This was also likely the reason why they forgot about one of our dishes (the Hainanese Chicken,) which was unfortunate, but we were full enough anyway. You can see below what we ordered and what my recommendations are-

Beef Rendang- Excellent. Semi-dry style. Could use a tad more heat but very flavorful with tender beef
Crispy Rice- Excellent. Excellent wok hei and texture. Plenty of scallion oil for flavor and a good amount of shrimp
Kangkung Belachan- Very good. Nicely cooked water spinach and a good amount of funk.
Trengganu Duck- Very good. Nice curry. Tender duck though there were bones. Plenty of veggies.
Chow Zhou Tilapia Fish- Good. Reminded me of some Canto fish dishes but a bit sweeter.
Kajang Beef Satay- Good/standard. Good beef. Standard satay
Coconut Butter Chicken- Alright. A bit light in flavor.
Ice Kacang- Alright. Not sweet enough. A bit bland

Would recommend. The rendang over rice is also a tasty reasonably priced option for takeout

Each plate showed why this place deserves highest praise. Meals here are both tasty and beautiful. The staff makes this place feel special without trying too hard. The meal here left me speechless. I'm excited to return.

The only good things about this place was the staff who were very friendly and the iced coffee which was delicious. But the food in general was not good. The hainanese chicken came out cold with majority bone pieces and barely any meat on it. I don’t think they cleaned the meat properly as there was a small feather on the chicken. The food came out rushed and cold. The mango sticky rice was very disappointing.

I'm so glad I ignored the negative reviews. If you want delicious Malaysian food be sure to try Makan House. We had the beef rendang, drunken noodle, Malaysian pork chop, and roti canai. Every dish was delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful. The deep-fried Malaysian pork chop was crispy and delicious. The staff was friendly and made us feel at home.

The flavors of this restaurant is what makes it stand out among the other establishments on Avenue U and indeed the entire neighborhood.

The food taste fresh and the service is unpretentious yet attentive and welcoming.

I will be a returning customer, and bonus point for being within walking distance from my home.

I’ve ordered here before but through a delivery app. It was packed well, food was ok considering the travel time and temperature which of course is to be expected with deliveries. We went to dine in and boy oh boy! It didn’t disappoint. The place is clean, and the staff were attentive to the customers. We ordered their rice dishes: Beef Rendang, Malaysian Porkchop, Ginger Pork and their lunch special of Singapore Fried Mee Hon and a couple of their appetizers: Wings and Chicken Satay.. all were superb!! We loved the smoky noodles.. wok hay you say?! The spice level of the beef rendang was tolerable for me, tasty and tender ginger pork in every bite and the porkchop was not heavily battered and the sauce coated every bit of the meat without being too goopy. The toppings on the wings were interestingly tasty, there were sesame seeds and some nori with some meat floss of some kind.. again super yummy! Chicken satay was very tender and enjoyable even without its sweet chunky peanut sauce. Overall, I’m satisfied with the dine in experience and will definitely keep coming back!
