I just found out that this beautiful restaurant is closing and I am super sad. it isn’t close to my house so I haven’t visited in a while, and now I wish I really did. I had the tapas which were absolutely delicious, especially with the garlic rice and the carrot pickles. The halo halo is huge - the generous serving of ube icecream, mango, flan and macapuno (coconut) makes it the perfect summertime treat. You will be missed, Purple Yam. Please please visit before they close on August 30!

I’m from Chicago, where Filipino breakfast and Filipino creative desserts are raging ever since Kasama won their Michelin star and James Beard award, so I came specifically to make comparisons with the legendary chefs Amy and Romy of Cendrillon and Purple Yam.

It’s hard to compare the dinner portions since they interpret Filipino cuisine in vastly different ways. But I would have to say all five of the Purple Yam desserts we tried equal or even outrank Kasama’s—even Kasama’s signature desserts, like the ube basque cake, mango tart, or blueberry chamomile tart. Purple Yam’s rendering of uniquely Filipino flavors is outstanding. For example, the ube flavor stands out much more vividly in Purple Yam’s halo halo ice cream; the buko pie is second to no other coconut dessert I’ve tried, and the kalamansi flavor in their merigue pie is one of those must-try-before-you-die if you count yourself a foodie :). Being a chocolate fanatic, I could have their champorado for breakfast literally everyday.

The only thing that is missing is a high tea service offering their delectable desserts!

Oh wow every bite was so delicious! We had the Chicken Sugba, Chicken adobo, grilled eggplant, dumplings, fritters... The rice and the sauces were all remarkable. Everything had an unexpected flavor and it was all completely excellent. The owner was right there asking us about our meal and navigating our toddlers food allergies, we cannot wait to go back again.

Mediocre food. Abysmal service. Not worth it.

Pakiramdam ko I was served by an underpaid staff who took her issue onto her customers.

I dined at Purple Yam recently and had a mixed experience. The food was undeniably delicious, capturing the authentic flavors of Filipino cuisine perfectly. The ambiance was quaint and cozy, making it the ideal spot for a neighborhood rendezvous.

However, the service was quite disappointing. The staff seemed disorganized and inattentive, which detracted from the overall experience. The possibility of them being understaff was refuted when I inquired out of genuine concern.

Additionally, I was alarmed when my wife felt something crawl on her leg grabbed it and threw it only to realize it was a roach. This was raised an immediate concern for cleanliness and hygiene.

While the food and atmosphere were commendable, the issues with service and cleanliness need serious attention.

I believe that my experience was a one-off so I will give them a chance to redeem themselves.

I really like it here. The sake menu is super fun and it’s nice to sit in the outdoor back area when it’s nice out and have a drink. The food is also really good, highlights are the lumpia Shanghai, bbq spare ribs, lechon kawaii and bagoong fried rice.

Food is not consistent. Some days taste good some days are not. I think they have different chiefs. Chicken adobo was sour and for the past visits sisig starts to portion to getting small.

Everything was just so fantastic. I have been around New York and been looking for filipino food. I have to say the dessert was out of this world. Fresh authentic natural and organic. Go for the jackfruit ice and the halo halo. The taste is very natural and not so sweet as is supposed to be. The service was amazing and friendly so the owner who took time to explain every single dish :) 10/10
