I loved going to Root Hill - nice folks, good coffee and food, right around the block from my subway station. Sounds perfect! Except... Their service can be unreasonably slow. I left this morning after paying (and tipping!) because my coffee took over 15 min to prepare and I missed my train (and it wasn't terribly busy). Hope they start prioritizing speed of service a bit more here.

Food is good, atmosphere welcoming, staff is nice. Giving three stars though because of how consistently slow the service is. For simple orders like a coffee or bagel it routinely takes an inordinate amount of time; literally 5x as long as a comparable shop. I live nearby and have stopped doing pop-ins here because it takes so long (even when I am the only customer). Easier to go somewhere else or make at home. The quality is good, but if you're on the move not worth the extensive wait. Best suited for a lazy weekend morning

Love this cafe. Service was awesome, chai latte was flavorful and my chocolate croissant was deliciously satisfying. Atmosphere is quaint. Located a block from Union Street Suvway stop on R line.

This is a really cute cafe! I came here to work and there was ample space with tables and some had outlets! The service was great. I ordered an americano that was good but didn't have any food- although they had a lot of options! One thing that surprised me was that around 3pm this cafe became filled with kids coming in with their parents- which I thought was very cool! I'd come back

I have to say, don’t judge a cafe by its reflective plastic boards and average decoration. The coffee here was actually some of the best I found in the area.Coffee - 7.8: the blend suits the milk very well. It’s smooth, has flavour and doesn’t linger on your palate. Not a lot of strength but a good cup.

A nice spot for a laid back atmosphere in fast-paced New York. Good coffee, good breakfast food that felt home-made and natural. Decent prices, too.
