I’m a big fan of their mozzarella, but the prices are definitely on the high side - as everyone agrees. I enjoy shopping here as a splurge.
Really only worth it for the harder to find pantry items. Service is lackluster.
Purchased ditalini pasta, rosemary, and pecorino romano here. Paid quite a lot for this small lot of items (the ditalini was quite overpriced but i had expected as much) only to bring them home the next day and on closer examination find that the rosemary had mold and did the romano cheese. I was barely able to salvage one sprig of rosemary from the lot and had to sacrifice maybe a fifth of the romano.
With the prices here, i had expected not to have to inspect every item like some untrustworthy corner supermarket back in my own neighborhood but I was wrong.
The name of this place should be mud.
Everything so good and fresh!
Russo's has gone downhill. Their prices are high, the counter guy was beyond stoned today, and my bag of "Meat Tortelloni" turned out to be a mislabeled all-cheese batch.
Literally the best Italian sandwich I have ever had. The place has been here 100 years looks like they make their own own Pastor or something. It was like an old-school cheese shop that you saw back in the 50s place I give a six on a 1-5
Sandwich and panini price up $6 in 3 years ?
i’m only giving Russo’s 3 stars because it’s nostalgic to me otherwise it would have been 2 stars. I remember years ago sitting on the 5th ave bus, always wanting to stop in. Now all these years later, I finally visited Russo’s. I grabbed a fresh mozzarella sandwich, obviously since that’s what they are known for. however what a big disappointment. I couldn’t tell it was fresh mozzarella, the cheese was sliced thin and didn’t have that freshly made taste, might as well bought this sandwich at the local deli. The eggplant had an off putting taste as well. I wanted to love this place, but Unfortunately i will not be returning.
seemed like they had good pantry items but oh my god this was the second-worst sandwich of my life. i got the muffaletta and the meat was… questionable. not fresh at all. the bread was somehow both stale and soggy and tasted like drywall.
Their macaroni salad is so delicious, smoked mozzarella, smoked turkey, marinated mushrooms, artichoke hearts were to die for. It was a miserable rainy night, and it was a highlight to have such a great meal ?

In complete agreement with a review below. Great for pantry items. But staff is surly and prepared items are simply terrible. We got soup that had the whole onion in it, skin and all, and looked like something you’d get in a bad hospital cafeteria. We’ve gotten meat that wasn’t cooked correctly. I hope management could change to make this place good again.

This review is not about the quality of the food that Russo's offers. Its about the service. You see, I have this habit. Whenever I walk into a shop or small business in this city—which I have been walking into for the past 40 years— the first thing that I do is say hello. "HI, hows it goin" .So Last night around 7:15 pm I walk into an empty Russo's to order a sandwich. I walk up to the counter and I say "hello" .Nothing. The guy behind the counter just looks at me like I got two heads. So I repeat myself. "Hi, hows it going" ? He says,"What do you want? ""May I have the #2 sandwich with Fontina cheese, Prosciutto roasted peppers and balsamic vinaigrette. ""Can't do it."So now I'm thinking, did I just walk into Leopoldi's hardware store by mistake?"We just cleaned up." But its only7:15, and they don't close till 8.So ,OK, he does me the big favor and makes my sandwich Which costs $16.00 and 24 cents.I pay. No Thank You.I'm sorry, but When I pay out $16.26 for a sandwich I expect a thank you. Or put up a sign that says no sandwiches after 7.There are plenty of other places to get a sandwich in Brooklyn. I won't be back.

Great quality of a mozzarella
I just wish the people who wait on me were more personable instead of treating me like an inconvenience.
Great food, friendly staff
