It used to be great, but sadly the food quality is just not there anymore. The chicken j*** had no salt, even with the crispy skin and BBQ sauce you could taste the meat. The rice was good but it was definitely not freshly made. It tasted like re-heated rice. Finally, the music was so loud that having a conversation with your friends was impossible.I do not recommend it.There are other options in the neighborhood.

The only thing missing from this place is a backroom speakeasy with the same smooth R&B music. Everything was done very well. Drinks are heavy pours too and I appreciated that.

Highly recomendable!Wow! It was the nicest and kindest people who welcomed and served us. We had an extraordinary fun night at Sally Roots with good food, better cocktails, and the best crew. The Ropa Vieja is good, the wings are very good, and the lobster at another level.

Yo on some real stuff. This is the best place to go in brooklyn. There a stall white lady who works the main shift I forgot her name but she’s amazing. There’s two very great servers here named Julie and Maddie. I literally have not ever received service in life like this in a long time. I will be back with my friends and business partners. Thank you Julie ! & thank you Maddie!
When Sally roots first opened in 2017 I had given it a 5 star review. Unfortunately it has really gone down hill. The establishment appears to be struggling from a patron point of view. Recently went for dinner- the interior is very worn and in need of a refresh. Their cocktails which used to be excellent with all fresh squeezed juices are no longer the same. It seems depressed inside. Above all else the food was pretty subpar. The j*** wings were oddly sweet with no heat or zing at all. they didn't take like j*** in any sense of the word. I couldn't even finish them. The mac and cheese was bland and watery. They've made it through COVID and I'm sure that was really hard I just sense everything about this place needs to be invigorated. Waiter was very nice.

One of my friends ordered the pasta Rasta with added j*** chicken and had food poisoning immediately after. He was sick, throwing up, and a few other symptoms all night. The other dishes were okay.

Terrible service. They advertise an outdoor area and then don’t let people access it because, “it rained yesterday”. Totally waste of time on a Saturday or Sunday. Exceptionally bad host. Management should really rethink this women killing their business. This place has potential if they utilized it right.
One of our friends had the Rasta pasta then got horrible food poisoning for the rest of the evening. Called the restaurant to inform them what happened and the staff was rude and hung up. Never eating there again.

So upon me arriving I chose to sit out back there were people there. Waiter sat me down with an empty cup I looked over the menu 15 to 18 minutes when by and the waiter didn't come to check up on me or anything so I got up walked into the restaurant to get him ordered at pos and sat down still no water shortly after another waiter came and asked me if I ordered I said yes he noticed the empty cup and took care of it 23 minutes of being seated I knew then I wasn't going to tip I'm a server so I expect similar or basic service that I'd give. I ordered red snapper with coconut rice first they should make it clear you're getting half a fish not a whole the portion was small asian restaurants give more rice than that it taste good I've seen more rice on a plate with shrimp loaded I also ordered conch fritters which was ok not I wouldn't get it again it guess I was hoping to taste more chunks of the conch I got excited seeing it on the menu I should of known better. The second waiter kinda of made up for the poor service but after observing how everyone else's experience was smoother than mine I was annoyed. Being there's a lack of variety in the neighborhood I decided to try "caribbean" restaurant this is not caribbean food maybe caribbean inspired. Mexicans can't cook all foods hire actual caribbean chefs. Train and retrain the staff or get new staff. First experience was disappointing
Went on a Saturday for brunch. Was seated pretty quickly in the patio. I initially ordered the Roots Benedict but sent it back because the English muffin was so soggy and the hollandaise was tasteless. The French toast was decent. My friends said the Jamaican Shrimp Fried Rice and Vegan Mofongo were good. The mimosas were fine. Will likely not rush to come back any time soon.
The food is so good!! But the bartender made us feel super unwelcome. Came in an hour and a half before closing. The bartender looked visibly annoyed when we came in and told us the kitchen closed in 20 mins. He came over shortly after to tell us we had 5 minutes to order (ok done) we ordered. When he brought our first dish over it was so passive aggressive when he practically threw the plates at us and made us feel super unwelcome. Someone walked in shortly after and he told them the kitchen was closed. After, he started complaining that he just wasn’t having a good day. We ended up asking for a box for our food because we didn’t wanna keep feeling like a burden. As someone that works in service, I get it, but totally unnecessary to make people feel uncomfortable because you hate your job.

Bottomless brunch, woohoo!Delicious food! The shrimp and grits has a wonderful twist to it by sally roots *home made hot sauce*. The flavors are an explosion in your mouth. The mimosas come in a variety of flavors and keep flowing. The garden area is a cute space for an outdoor meal.Overall, I recommend!
