We order the age 45day ribeye but the steak is too hard ! Is not work with this price! The service is not bad
If you are Hispanic you should be aware that even if you have a white reservation they will not assign you a table even if they are available, in the same way that they will give the available tables to people or Japanese without a reservation, and they will make you wait up to 2 hours to assign you one or you will get tired and leave the place permanently. Discrimination reigns, the food is not really that good. I know better places with better meats like Peter Luger in Brooklyn is the best. If you want good treatment, good food, reserve with Peters. Your experience will tell you everything from the first moment.
Amazing food & service. Only downside is that I reserved the day before for a birthday dinner and requested a birthday dessert that they unfortunately didn’t fulfill. The hostess did say happy birthday walking in so I assumed they would have it :/
Sushi and steak are delicious! Would recommend for any occasion

I went to pick up an order and a waiter (Asian) treated me in a super rude manner... he wanted me to take the order away or go wait somewhere else... that is no way to treat people.

I regularly go here for the steak. It is excellent. I eat at the bar and the bartenders are excellent. They always describe the various sauces you get with the steak and the vegetables. BTW, the seasonal vegetable side is varied and excellent. Highly recommend!

Had higher expectations for this place based on some reviews. It is a small restaurant with limited amount of seating inside. The service was a bit slow. Ordered the porterhouse for 2, two sushi rolls, tuna tartare and S+C baked potatoes. The porterhouse was a bit underwhelming and was not as flavorful compared to other steaks I've had. It definitely needed the addition of herb and butter as well as two other sauces. The tuna tartare was fresh and complimented well with the nori sheets. The sushi rolls were a bit overpriced and were just okay.

This place answered the call when we were looking for sunday night late dinner. I was in the mood for sushi while my husband wanted steak. How appropriate that this place marries those two dishes.
When we arrived, we were seated in the back. Dimly lit quaint decor. Having the whole place to ourselves added to the romantic vibes. Service was wonderful. We based all our food choices based on our water's recommendations.
I ordered the Azabu whiskey sour. Love a good egg white cocktail. It was perfect not too sweet with yuzu sake, lime and japanese whiskey.
The Branzino sushi arrived with 4 juicy pieces. Then we feasted on the shrimp crunch and salmon roll. My partner enjoyed the New York strip steak with cheese fries and grilled broccoli. Everything was wonderful but standouts were the shrimp and the broccoli for me.

Great service and ambiance. Got the porterhouse and it was just ok. Would come back for the drinks and try the non-steak options

This review is long overdue ☺️🙈! Amazing restaurant with above par service. Went as a graduation dinner for my son. My son loves Asian cuisine and is an avid meat eater so this was a perfect combo choice for us. Due to NYC traffic, we were going to be a little late for our reservation. Called to update and they were able to push us back 30-minutes. As a family, we had fun celebrating this milestone and it seemed like we have the restaurant to ourselves. Most of the other customers were seated outside. Food was fantastic, savory and hit all the spots to make us return and recommend to friends & family. Our server, was very attentive, fast and provided insight on things we should and did try.
Was a great day in all and would recommend it to everyone.
Parking: Parking is on the street; parking garage or parking lot are not available. If you park on the street directly in front of the restaurant—parking is free. However, around the area there are also metered parking.
Kid-friendliness: They have a few high-chairs for kids. If your child does eat they have a pretty small menu for them.

We ordered the Wedge Salad, Yellowtail Sushi, Crab Cake, Porterhouse & Grilled Lobster, Wagyu Sirloin, Grilled Broccoli, and Cheese Fries. None of the dishes were disappointing nor bland--our journey from appetizers to main course felt like a Ghibli movie.
It seems that some (negative) reviewers may prefer more "Americanized" flavors, with their emphasis on sweeter and saltier dishes--there's nothing wrong with that, but it's important to note that Salt and Charcoal offers a more refined, subtle approach to represent Japanese fine dining. As an immigrant from Japan, we felt that the restaurant perfectly executed the essence of true Japanese cuisine, highlighting delicate flavors throughout the menu. So I'd advise anyone to make sure they visit with this notion & expectation for full appreciation of the experience.
Their homemade sauces were a delicate yet exciting addition, elevating each dish.
The cocktails--Mexican Kombucha, Wabi Sabi, and Naranja--were equally impressive, each one unique and perfectly crafted.
As for service, the balance between attentiveness and the freedom to enjoy our private moment was spot on. The staff was attentive without being intrusive.
Lastly, the ambiance was chic, cozy, and perfectly understated, with the music setting an impeccable tone--classy without any unnecessary flash. Truly, everything about our experience at Salt and Charcoal was top-notch.
Much love!

Can’t go wrong w anything. Fire steak w wasabi cream and asahi on tap
Worst lamb I have ever had. Tasteless, cold, bland, and tasted burnt on the outside. Unbelievably paid 56 dollars for this monstrosity. Vibe inside was cool though. Good luck out there
