Best meal I’ve had in two years. Being in the industry for 10+ years in incredible restaurants, find it harder and harder to enjoy a meal. Server was excellent, attentive but with reservation. Food was perfectly seasoned, lots of acid and salt not afraid to pack flavor. The Salsas great. The warm tortillas reminded me of grabbing them with my abuelita in Mexico.

Flan was delicious.
First time enjoying one since being a kid.

Excited to come back. Don’t walk. Run.
Support this incredible team.

Tuna tostada and fried queso was great. The lamb and chicken tasted strongly of warmed over flavor and the portion sizes were very small which would have been a problem if they actually tasted good.

As a 🇲🇽 Living in NY it's always a treat to try mexican places! We went for brunch on sunday (mi husband ordered the barbacoa) and i ordered the chilaquiles! the chilaquiles were so good!!!!! he said the barbacoa was good too! as a little note: they don't have hot coffee ☕️ but they have cold brew! the chilaquiles were missing some beans but they were very tasty! good amount of 🌶️ nothing crazy but full of flavor!

Very nice date night aesthetic, open space, low lighting, modern design and colors. Liked the bar seating. Been very cold lately, appreciated the two door entry to cut down on cold air coming into the place. Hosts and bartender were both very accommodating when we asked to use the tall table chairs at the bar (all these bar have backless seats, why lol).

We ordered two cocktails with our food, both were good, unique, tasty, not sweet - big plus. One was out of stock, must be popular.

Food wise, a mostly, intentionally unique menu. Not what you find at your local "go-to" Mexican spot. I couldn't quite get consensus with my S.O. on what to pick to share, entree wise, so we ended up getting smaller bites and the flan for dessert.

Wings flavor was very good, saucey, smokey, and a delayed chili heat, liked them. Would've liked them a tad crispier, but that might be the sports bar foodie in me. Liked the two roasted cauliflower tacos, good size. Maybe a bit too pickely, eventually overtook the other flavors. Flan was excellent to end the night.

Bathroom was nice too, just needs that steel plate upgrade on the wall under the hand dryer, that area was getting dank. Would come back and try more of the menu!

Kid-friendliness: Don't bring your kids here.

This place has to be hands down one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. They have fantastic mezcal margaritas and the guac is yummy (get the salsas too — the orange habanero one is my fave) the steak entree is FIRE my boyfriend and I LOVE it so much, and the salmon has become one of my faves.

YOU MUST GET THE FLAN! Sooo creamy and delicious

The service is always pleasant and welcoming. Thank you Sobre Masa team :)

My family and I had dinner here tonight, a group of six in total. The service was terrible, if not the worst we’ve experienced. We waited over an hour for our food. While some dishes arrived fairly promptly, others came 40 minutes later. When we asked for information about the dishes, we were given minimal explanation. No apologies were offered for the delay.

At one point, they brought us a drink meant for another table. Additionally, they combined two of the same dish we had ordered without informing us, which led us to believe more food was still coming.

While some dishes were good, the portions were small, the prices were expensive, and the meat had a lot of fat. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

A Hidden Gem of Mexican Cuisine in Brooklyn!

At first glance, you might be tempted to judge this restaurant by its exterior or the surrounding area – but don’t make that mistake! Once you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm and inviting interior. The décor is simple, yet filled with charming Mexican accents that set a promising tone for what’s to come.

The staff here is exceptionally friendly and attentive, making you feel genuinely welcome. It’s not just about great service; it’s an experience that makes you feel like you’ve been taken to Mexico.

The menu is thoughtfully curated – not overwhelming, but with enough variety to offer some truly unique dishes and creative combinations. Every dish I tried was absolutely delicious, and, without a doubt, among the best Mexican food I’ve ever had.

And the best part? The prices are quite reasonable, especially considering the high quality of both, the food and service.

In summary, even if you have to travel a bit to get here, and even if the area doesn’t initially seem appealing, the exceptional food, outstanding service, and fantastic drinks make it all worthwhile. A huge thank you to the chef and his team!

This is a place you’ll want to return to, again and again.
I wholeheartedly recommend Sobre Masa – give it a try, and I promise, it won’t be your last visit!

Delicious tortillas as a base for every item but the carnitas and lengua were excellent. Also get the flan. It’s by far the best I’ve had in

The place has a casual feel to it. The service was outstanding. The food quality was great and everything was cooked perfectly. The empanada was pretty bland. The flan was incredible.

Terrific option if you are seeing a show at any of the venues in East Williamsburg. Industrial chic vibe with excellent food, and service was on point - friendly and attentive. We went back for seconds on the cauliflower tacos. And thirds on the margaritas of course!

A fellow hispanic friend and I attended a collab Dia de Los Murertos pop-up both Thursday and Friday to nab some EPIC @BorderTown tacos guisados. Neither of us had tried Sobre Masa yet but it was on our list of places to dine at so we figured this would be a great opportunity to try their mexican sweet breads as a precursor. Both days we arrived to find a nonsensical line/ set-up for ordering, waiting for, and receiving our orders. We waited much too long to receive pastries that were sitting right in front of us just waiting for someone to bag. The line was mostly short, the problem was just that it wasn’t moving at all. Ultimately, that wasn’t a make or break deal. The make or break deal was the gnarly and nasty attitude we both received separately from the woman taking orders, ON BOTH DAYS. She had provided ZERO hospitality or information about the menu and scoured and scoffed at questions regarding the pastries. Had Bordertown not been a part of this pop-up, I would have told her exactly where to go and what to do there. My friend and I deleted Sobre Masa from a group google maps NYC dining list were a part of with a much more specific note about the cashier woman there. I hope BorderTown thinks twice about continuing to do business with SM, especially given the other horrible reviews. To add, the vanilla conchas we both ordered were burnt and tasted that way. Paying $5 for a small average tasting burnt mexican sweet bread is a rip-off. I’m so glad I didn’t have to spend a ton of money on a dinner at SM to know that they are awful in every respect! Thankfully, there are now SO MANY authentic mexican spots to dine at like: Bordertown pop-ups, taqueria ramirez, rey de reyes food truck, La Superior, Nenes, Cemitas El Tigre, Los Tacos #1, BirriaLandia Food Truck, etc etc

Response to Rika: I’d love to confront you in person. as I stated before, the reason I didn’t in real time was out of respect for Bordertown. I’d appreciate if the owners were present while we meet. I’ll go ahead and give you a call after posting this to set up a day and time. When you told me to hand my receipt to the chef, the owners of sober Massa were in front of me as well not just Jorge so I did not know which chef you were referring to. This goes to show how confusing and unorganized the whole set up was, but you already know that.

I had a wonderful time at sobre masa celebrating my birthday with my family & friends. The food is incredible, I’m a vegetarian and there were so many great dishes to choose from. I missed the seasoned mushroom dish that I had last time. We were a table of 6 and it was about $500 - well worth the food and experience. With that said I was a tiny bit disappointed they didn’t offer me anything special (dessert, a drink, nothing !) for my birthday ! It was still a wonderful experience but the service was a little chilly.

This was definitely worth the walk from downtown Brooklyn to Bushwick!

The main thing I was excited to try were the tortillas. They are made entirely in house, from soaking and grinding dried corn, to pressing and cooking them. The care and dedication to craft shines at this restaurant.

We ordered the tacos al pastor, carnitas, frijoles, and chocolate cake with sal de gusano for dessert.

Everything was beautifully seasoned, the frijoles had a great level of spice, everything else was mild, but the flavors were fantastic!

The sal de gusano offered a very smoky and bright flavor to an otherwise deeply rich and sweet dessert.

This is a place I would definitely recommend checking out if you're in the area!
