I visited Stumptown coffee roasters and while the building itself is truly iconic, the experience inside sadly didn’t live up to the charm of its exterior. Once you learn about the building’s history, it feels almost heartbreaking to see such a legendary space turned into a very ordinary coffee shop.
The interior feels unfinished — minimal, but not in a thoughtful or intentional way. It lacks warmth, atmosphere, and any sense of character that the space truly deserves. Sitting there, I couldn’t help but imagine how much better it would serve as a boutique wine bar or a classy fine dining spot — something that honors the building’s story.
As for the coffee, I ordered a cappuccino, which arrived slightly cold and tasted just average — no better or worse than any other coffee shop in the city.
Would I return for coffee? Honestly, probably not. It’s one of those places that looks great from the outside — the kind you might snap a quick Instagram Story of on a rainy autumn day — but once inside, it just doesn’t offer much beyond that.

Super weird experience. I came in for a matcha and I guess I misspoke or the barista misheard me. But she made me a chai, so she had to remake my matcha. She then told me I had to return my drink cause she charged me for a chai. I looked at the menu and the chai and the matcha were the same price… but she said “nope, that’s a typo.” So I had to repay more… Super sketchy and unnecessary over $1.50… so I will not be back nor would recommend this place.

Coffee is good, and the free sparkling water is a nice touch. As some other reviews note the staff are not friendly, it's noticeable across multiple visits. But mainly the music choices are highly questionable, and the music is very loud. If it's not your jam you will need noise cancelling headphones, which is not ideal. Today was some sort of mainstream country music, wow...it...just...kept...going.

Phenomenal coffee, phenomenal staff, phenomenal coffee shop. I make my way down here 1-2 times a week. No weekend is complete without them. Their take home beans are always fresh, never stale. Highly recommended.

I’m a big fan of Stumptown coffee, in a charming place with great service is even better. Their nitro and draft cold brews are the best! Nice spot to enjoy by yourself or with friends
