The worse Jamaican food ive ever had. It felt like they microwaved plained oxtail and them put sweet sauce on it. I ended up throwing the food away. Wont even mention how I waited almost 2 hours for delivery lol

It was a treat to visit Sugar Cane BK last week to celebrate my son's birthday.

This place has always been great. I started eating here back in 2015. Glad to see they have kept their greatness.

Recommendations; Drink:A Sorrel with rum
Food: Buss up shot roti. The oxtail and rice and peas
The kids liked the tacos

I haven't been to Sugarcane in years, went to a concert at the Barclay's, and decided to sit down for dinner and drinks before the show. We ended up at Sugarcane, almost forgot how small and cozy this place was. The got seated in 10 minutes last min on a Sat night was great. The food and waitress did their best to make sure our food and drinks came out fast. being that we were on a time crunch. The food was good, my sister didn't like her chicken it was burnt and she couldn't eat it. My food was good. I had the jerk chicken with trini fried rice with coleslaw, and it was all good. my friend got the fried chicken, she liked it. but the Star of the show was the piter of rumpunch omggg...soo good. I miss my hometown Brooklyn, always the best food and drinks. Needless to say, Sugarcane still got it after all these years...

This was my third visit to Sugarcane BK, and unfortunately, each experience has gotten progressively worse.

My first visit was great — I went on a Thursday evening and was warmly welcomed by a male manager who was attentive and friendly. I ordered the oxtail, macaroni pie, and callaloo soup — everything was flavorful and well-prepared.

However, on my second visit (a Tuesday), the service was noticeably lacking. I waited over 20 minutes without being acknowledged by the server. I had to flag her down just to order a seltzer, which didn’t arrive until my food did — a delay of about 15–20 minutes. Despite the poor service, the food was still good, which is why I gave it another chance.

Unfortunately, my third visit — which I was excited to share with a friend — was the worst. We arrived on a Thursday night and were seated quickly, but then ignored for over 20 minutes. The restaurant wasn’t busy, so the delay felt inexcusable, especially as we watched staff laughing and chatting with other tables. I had to flag someone down to even find out who our server was. He apologized and finally took our order — oxtail, callaloo soup, macaroni pie, rice and peas, and calypso wings, along with two Remy with Coke.

Then came another long wait — over 20 minutes — just for our drinks. My friend nearly walked up to the bar to get them himself. When the drinks finally came, there was no apology for the delay. The wings came out cold and tasted old, like they had been sitting out for a while.

When our main dishes arrived, the food was lukewarm at best. The oxtail was tough and gamey, not tender at all. The callaloo soup lacked any real flavor and also tasted like it had been sitting too long. My friend didn’t receive his macaroni pie initially, which had to be followed up on.

To top it off, as I was eating, I found an eggshell under one of my oxtails. When I brought it to the waiter’s attention, he brought over the bartender — who also turned out to be a chef. He apologized and offered to remake the dish, but by then the entire experience had soured and I declined.

He asked that we not leave a bad review and encouraged us to come back, but during the remainder of our time there, we were ignored while the staff focused on another table of women — laughing, socializing, and even giving out shots.

We eventually flagged down the waiter to ask for the bill. The only gesture made to remedy our experience was comping one oxtail dish — not enough to make up for the repeated disappointments throughout the night.

I will not be returning, and based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

I’ve dined at Sugarcane many times in the past, but this recent visit left me both surprised and disappointed by the level of service. We were visiting from out of state and had planned a quick dinner before heading to a concert nearby. When we arrived, we waited to be seated, and the hostess eventually led us to a table awkwardly placed in the middle of a busy aisle—right in the path of staff walking back and forth.

I had specifically requested booth seating when making the reservation, which was clearly noted in my confirmation email. When I pointed this out to the hostess, she responded with an attitude saying, “There isn’t anything she can do about it,” without making any effort to accommodate the request or offer a solution.

Our server, however, was polite and attentive. I explained the situation and asked to speak with a manager. The manager came over, apologized, and assured us that we’d be moved to a booth before our food arrived.

After waiting for quite some time—and noticing that several tables who arrived after us received their drinks first—our drinks finally came, though the mocktail I ordered was incorrect and had to be replaced.

Eventually, our server let us know a booth was available. However, it was located right next to the DJ booth, which was far too loud for us to comfortably hold a conversation. I declined the move due to the noise, even though I saw other, quieter booth areas open up. When I asked about those, I was told they were reserved for larger parties.

By this point, we were frustrated and disappointed. What was meant to be a quick, enjoyable dinner before an event turned into a negative experience. Given my past visits to Sugarcane, this was especially disheartening.

Went a week after the grand re opening. Place gets crowded fast after 5:30 so it’s a good idea to try and go early. They were short staff which caused drinks and food to take a while to come out. There was one person at the door, one bringing out food and one making drinks…for the whole restaurant. We had two orders of wings and fries but only one came out. We had to wait a while for the second order. The food was good though. The bathroom could be cleaner. The place just opened and the female bathroom was out of order (I feel like they turned it into a staff bathroom) so everyone had to use the men’s room with wasn’t the cleanest. The bathroom needs to be cleaned more frequently. We went for happy hour so not sure if the prices and deals then are the same now.

I must say I'm very disappointed with the food I ordered 10/10/24.
HERITAGE STEW CHICKEN w/ THYME had too much salt and no seasoning sure didn't worth $27.04.
There was no Green Salad. So I was told to try Cabbage w/Mango which had more cabbage than Mango??
JERK PINEAPPLE WINGS $17.68 had no seasoning. Chef just jerked the wings and placed a sauce??
BUCHANANAL CHICKEN TENDERS needed to be cooked a little more?? The high standards with tasty foods has somewhat diminished since this business opened. I won't be going back there at all. Rating of ZERO STARS. Their gratuity is absolutely ridiculous. I don't have an issue tipping but, my gosh, seriously explain to me why am I tipping steupssssss

This restaurant is mediocre at best. The servers were nice and the vibes chill, but if all I wanted was nice people and a chill vibe I would go to a lounge or club. Above all this is supposed to be a restaurant and the food was a MISS. I ordered the oxtails with rice and peas, macaroni pie, and a side of potato salad. My husband ordered the Jambolasi Snapper with rice and peas and steamed broccoli. My oxtails were chewy which indicates that it’s not fresh and my husband’s snapper was nicely flavored, but not fresh and his broccoli was soft/mushy. We were told that the rice and peas was finished and given the kale coconut rice instead. There was nothing special about the rice served and it came off as microwave hot not freshly cooked hot. The potato salad was never served and when I inquired about it I was told that it spoiled because they left the fridge open. The couple sitting next to me had to send back both meals as they described them as “fridge cold”. This is completely unacceptable. They also add a 20% gratuity for parties of two or more. Our service was good so I didn’t mind, but considering everything else I understand why others have an issue with this policy. I was so over it that I didn’t even take pics. Presentation means nothing if the food is of poor quality. I want good food that looks good, not nicely presented food that is bad. We will not return. Restaurants really need to do better.
