Found a hair in the chirashi rice. The hair was curly and had a white dot at the base, which really threw me off. I contacted them immediately, they apologized and issued a refund. For this, I gave them one more star. Still, the hair shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Really really good. The prices are super reasonable and competitive. The staff are friendly. The food is really great. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were generous. This felt really worth $20, the dinner special was 3 rolls with soup. Attached is a picture of the rolls.

Let me start with the fact that the food here is good. My rating is referring more about their service and how they treat their customers.
I went there to get takeout for lunch special. I was the first and only customer when I came in. BUT I had to wait 30 minutes for them to prepare my order. While I was waiting I couldnt even ask anyone how long the order will take. Because the manager disappeared behind the curtain.
When I finally got my order (after 30 minutes waiting), I asked why did it take so long. And their manager just yelled at me very rudely “Because of the miso soup! We had to make it!” And ran away before I could even say anything. If they had given me heads up that the soup will take awhile, I could’ve just not order it. But nothing.
So this experience definitely left a negative impression about their service.
Just a heads up - go there for food, but expect long wait times and very rude staff.
I got there with my family and it was closed at 1 pm.
The salmon is so fresh every time! And free delivery if you order from their website (you should tip though)

3-14-25. Tony, thank you for taking great care of us that night. Tri-color and white tuna and tuna tataki. It was unique and delicious. Everything perfect tender and delicious. It's like you expected us to come.

Hot lunch (vegetable tempura) box was $11 before tax and was enough food to cover both lunch and dinner for me. 5/5

The food is terrific, with lots of variety across dishes, all of which are fresh and tasty. The specialty rolls are especially good, though don't sleep on the simply things like peanut avocado rolls. The staff and owners are warm and friendly, making it a real neighborhood staple. Eating in is always a beautiful spread, and carryout is always quick and well-packed. I've been going for nine years now and have never had a bad experience.

This is probably one of the worst Japanese sushi place in New York City. Every item on their menu is mediocre at best.

I was here with my family on a friday, perfect costumer service and affordable prices. I would recommend any of the dinner combo or the bento box and the firecracker roll.

edit: Used to love Sushi Yu but recently there has been a severe drop off in quality of fish. The sushi is often chewy, filled with sinew and brown avocado. Major bummer as we would go here a lot
