First time visiting. Glad for the local recommendation. Loved the atmosphere - immediately transported to a different vibe when you enter thru the doors. We got the pork chop platter, tacos and torta. The family cleaned their plates. Can’t wait to try the ceviche next time and other items on the menu. Friendly and kind staff - mainly spoke Spanish but will be able to accommodate basic service in English. We knew enough to communicate in Spanish.

Tacos Matamoros is a true local gem. This unpretentious, family-run Mexican spot in Sunset Park is always full of locals — which is exactly what drew me in.
The menu is huge, but tacos are the star. I went with the al pastor, carnitas, and chorizo. All three were excellent — double-layered tortillas, meat grilled to perfection, and topped with fresh onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. This is the standard Mexican restaurant. There’s nothing crazy fancy about the place but what Tacos matamoros DOES HAVE is affordable. Drinks (alcoholic) and FOOD! The quantity of food they give out is unheard. A casual date with a few drinks will run you less than $100 so that’s fantastic. This place is good ol reliable. It’s a local gem and a testament to sunset park’s demographics.
