Austere is right. Great place to ruin your Valentine’s Day plans. If you’d like to sit in below freezing temperatures without a drink for 45 minutes, you’re in luck!

This place is absolutely lovely. Daria is top notch — friendly, attentive, and helpful. We started with the polenta, the mussels, and the cheese plate and ended with the tagliolini and tagliata. Everything was exceptional, especially the polenta and the tagliata! Daria went above and beyond to help with wine pairings and recommendations. Great food, great wine, great service.? We will be back!

Mediocre food. Mediocre service. I recommend the polenta and the octopus but there are much better places in the city to get pasta and charcuterie for the same price. Also, beware this place charges a 4% credit card processing fee that they claim is following a "newly passed New York State law". Not sure this is legal since it wasn't mentioned anywhere prior to receiving the bill. And since credit card companies only charge merchants 1-3%, this seems like an unfair way to cheat customers of more money.

The pasta and the bartender are to die for. So friendly. Gets very busy though so make a reservation!

I've been a regular at this neighborhood spot for about a year and couldn't be happier with it! The pasta is why I went in but the staff is why I keep coming back! I always sit at the bar and ask for Ryan. He has a great attitude and always gives the perfect food and drink recommendations. The only complaint I can make is that I dont have two stomachs. I always leave Saint Austere, extremely satisfied and excited to return. Do NOT miss this spot and when you go in, be sure to ask for Ryan!

Great ambience and wonderful food. Not too many tables so even sitting at the bar feels intimate. I recommend a reservation on the weekend.

Fantastic place for a special meal. Had the chefs tasting menu with wine pairing and the courses and the pairings were amazing. The food was so good I didn't even get a chance to grab photos of the meal. Awesome atmosphere, great knowledgeable staff, and the best polenta ever.

This place was actually our plan C. Turned out to be the best choice in the end for our staff dinner. The waitress was very nice. She explained the family style concept to us and said something about sharing (good luck with that). The cocktails were great and their wine selection was pretty good considering I can be a snob about these things. The food was amazing. We places all our orders in one go and the small places came out first. We had the Salad, grilled octopus, and broccoli rabe i think. We ended up ordering another round of small plates because they were that good. Then the large plates came out, we had some hangar steaks and the chicken, man it was amazing. Dessert was Tiramisu which had this saltiness to it that contrasted the sweetness and it was soooo good. We begged for another one after the kitchen closed and they obliged out. Amazing restaurant and I would totally go back there.

A hidden gem in Brooklyn ! First time at this restaurant last week. Small but really cute restaurant. The food was amazing I was shocked. Best steak and pasta we ever had., reminded me of Italy. Our waitress Courtney was so nice too I had so many questions about the food. She was so knowledgeable and recommended the best white wine to us. The bartender was great also made my boyfriend an awesome drink. We will be back for sure our new fave restaurant :)

This restaurant had a nice atmosphere (minus the music which didn't quite match its physical appearance) but the food left a lot to be desired. I had the lasagna and despite its bad visual appearance, the dish was pretty good and filling. However, one of my friend's shrimp pasta was overcooked and a second friend's tagliolini was undercooked. A third friend had the organic roasted chicken which was good but nothing special. We were told by a waitress that the food was meant to be shared (as the food came out individually when ready), but the portions were so small that it was hardly enough for one person.
